Here we have a circa 1943 Zenith German Army (Wermacht) issue pocket watch. It has the clear Dienstuhr Heer signing and serial number to the rear.

It has the dark gloss dial which is designed for legibility with the contrasting white/silver signing. It has the railroad minute track around the exterior with the luminous plots on all but the quarter marks. This is balanced with the luminous Arabic numerals below. The luminous has aged with darkened spots and has reacted with the dial to cause a crazed spidering around the luminous plots. Below 12 the dial is signed with the Zenith name. The large sub-second register sits at 6 o’clock and is inset into the dial. It has the single second dashes with longer 5 second dashes and Arabic 15 second signing.

The sub-second hand is original with the lollipop design with no counterbalance. The hands are of luminous index style in the clear silver tone.

The case measures 50mm x 50mm without the crown and loop. It is a base metal case which has the good silver tone finish which has slightly dulled. The crown and loop are both original and in good condition. The caseback is a hermetic design which screws in place with the 3 notches. It is clearly marked with the DH initials and serial number ‘D 8404858 H’. Inside it is signed with the Zenith logo to the centre and ‘Metal’ signing. It maintains the original inner dust cover which further protects the movement.

It is powered by the Zenith manual wind calibre 193-P6 movement. It has the gilt frosted finish to the bridges. It has not been serviced by ourselves but is in good condition. It is keeping time to within -20 variation per day with a strong amplitude of 340 degrees and a beat error of 0.5 m/s.

The serial number 3,460,504 dates the watch to lat 1942 – early 1943.
