This is a pleasing Rolex Oyster from the mid 1940s. It has a beautiful, legible dial with a clear sweep second track and Arabic numerals. The Rolex Oyster signing is original and the font is of the mid 1940s. The watch has its original Rolex Oyster crown with cross symbol.
It has a 32mm stainless steel case which would be suitable for unisex wear, despite originally being for the gentleman.
The model is a reference 4444 which has an unusual scooped bezel. This differs from the other Oyster bezels of the period with tend to be rounded or chamfered.
The strap is a new genuine leather Meyhofer German made strap, with an alligator grain finish. It has a plain Stainless-Steel buckle.
It will fit up to a 8” wrist.
The movement is a Rolex cal 700 10 ½”’ hunter movement, with lever escapement and a frequency of 18,000 BPH.
The watch has been recently serviced by our watchmaker.
It has a daily gain of -9 seconds, with an amplitude of 250 and a beat error of 1.8m/s.
Overall this is a pretty and unusual Oyster reference from the mid 1940s which is an ideal entry level vintage Rolex. Rest assured you are buying a good original example.

Dial:
The dial is silver tone which has aged in areas. The outer second track is graduated to 60 seconds for the large central sweep hand. At 6 O’clock the dial is signed “Swiss Made” whilst the dial is signed “Rolex Oyster” with the Rolex crown logo.
The Arabic numerals are clear and original, with the original lume infill. This has developed a puffy tone which looks great.
Overall in good original condition, with signs of ageing to the base tone of the dial.
Hands:
The hands are original. They are a thermally blued tone and are of unusual style. They are in very good condition with no signs of bending and only minimal discolouration. The lume infill is newer and has a vintage tone to it, which matches the numerals.
The centre second hand is a lovely red tone.
Glass:
The crystal is an acrylic replacement which is in perfect condition.
Crown:
The crown is an original Rolex Oyster crown. It is stainless steel and is in good condition with a beautiful coin edge finish. It is signed “Rolex Oyster”. The signing is clear and in good condition. There are some abrasions to the edge of the crown as is visible in the images.
Case:
The case is made from Stainless Steel and is in good condition with light surface scratching. Between the lugs has the grained finish remaining, alongside the top side of the case. To the rear, the case has a grained finish with is also good. The sides of the case are polished, with light surface scratches.
The case would appear to be unpolished. It is free of nicks and damage.
The serial number is 339,110 which dates the watch to 1945.
Caseback:
The case back is Stainless Steel and is in good condition.
It has a sharp coin edge and hasn’t been the victim of poor opening in the past.
The finish is polished, with light surface scratches all over as expected with ageing.
The inside is signed with Rolex signing, along with RWC LTD and the reference number 4444.
Strap:
The strap is a new genuine leather Meyhofer German made strap, with an alligator grain finish. It has a plain Stainless-Steel buckle.
It will fit up to a 8” wrist.
