For sale we have a Rare Seiko watch from October of 1969. It is the reference 2559-3010 which is an uncommon example. It is an excellent late 1960s design with its TV shaped case and use of brushed finishing. The electric blue dial is eyecatching and shines in the light with its lacquer finish. It is on its original Seiko Stelux mesh bracelet which completes the futuristic and clean look. Inside is a hi-beat cal 2559A movement with 24 jewels which is keeping great time to under 3 seconds variation a day. The watch comes within a period and possibly original Seiko box.
The case is well proportioned at 30mm wide x 29.5mm in length, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 31mm. A slightly rectangular TV steel case made of Stainless steel, with excellent use of brushed finishing to embody the best design elements of the late 1960s. There are subtle curves to the top and bottom, with hidden lugs and a bevelled angle to the sides of the case with polished and brushed finishing.
The case back snaps into place with notches either end. It is a solid block which contains the movement. The crown is a split stem which pulls out to release the movement. The crystal sits on top of this and is pushed into the front piece of the case. The rear is signed with a serial number dating it to 1969 with the reference.
Undoubtably the standout element of the watch is the bright electric blue dial which changes from a deep blue to a light blue in the sunlight. Its lacquered finish is good with no cracking or damage. The simplistic applied baton markers shine bright with a mirror polished finish, with the dial has a simple cross hair to the centre. The Seiko and 24 jewel signing is offset and unconventional but balanced. The sword hour and minute hands are clean with a silver mirror polished finish. They are protected by the original acrylic crystal.
The watch its presented on its original Seiko Stelux bracelet, UK Pat 1095455. It is a mesh bracelet which adds to the elegant case and dial combination. It will fit up to a 7.5” wrist diameter.
Inside is the Seiko 2559A manual wind hi-beat movement with 24 jewels and shock protection. A very accurate movement keeping time to within 3 seconds a day.
Not a commonly seen model, with a great case design, bracelet pairing, dial tone and hi-beat manual wind movement.
