NOS 1970 Mido Multi Star TV dial watch, Ref 1879, Stainless, Automatic ETA 2780, Original bracelet

 

The case is formed of Stainless Steel and is a chunky and angular 1970s tonneau shape. It is well proportioned, measuring 36.5mm x 35mm, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 41mm. The bezel has a beautiful brushed finish, which is in perfect condition.

The sides have a polished bevel, which falls into a grained finish on the flat surface of the sides. The top and bottom of the front of the case is polished too, leading neatly into the integrated bracelet. The bottom section has some light surface scratching.

 

The case back is in NOS condition. It is screwback and is Stainless Steel. It has it’s original sticker on the rear, as well as the red protective film.

 

The dial is very well designed, with a range of textures and finished encapsulated. It is a classic TV dial, which gives you a visual treat, drawing your eye to different aspects at every glance.

The dial has a linear grained finish as a base, with a silver tone to the centre, radiating outwards into a deep violet tone. The dial is well balanced, with the applied Mido logo at 9 O’clock with automatic signing below, with the day and date window opposite at 3 O’clock. Beneath both, at 6 O’clock it is further balanced by the multi-star signing, with applied star logo.

 

The crystal and crown are original and in excellent condition. The watch is on its original Mido Stainless Steel bracelet, manufactured by Stelux. It is signed Mido on the clasp and is in perfect condition.

 

The movement is a Mido branded ETA 2780 Automatic movement. It dates from 1968-1970 and is an excellent movement, with sweep second, 25 jewels, day date with quickset and hacking seconds. It is also a hi-beat movement, operating at 28800 BPH.

 

The movement is in excellent condition and is working perfectly, keeping time to +12 second a day, with an amplitude of 260 degrees and a beat error of 0.0 m/s.

Dial:

The dial is very well designed, with a range of textures and finished encapsulated. It is a classic TV dial, which gives you a visual treat, drawing your eye to different aspects at every glance.

The dial has a white minute track following the exterior of the dial, with T Swiss Made T at 6 O’clock at the bottom of the dial. The hour markers are punctuated by Tritium lume plots, with each further marked with applied baton hour markers. These are faceted on the ends, with the outside shorter and the inside a longer run to the dial. They are bright and have an indent in the centre, which plays with the light well.

The dial is well balanced, with the applied Mido logo at 9 O’clock with automatic signing below, with the day and date window opposite at 3 O’clock. Beneath both, at 6 O’clock it is further balanced by the multi-star signing, with applied star logo.

 

Hands:

The hands are original baton style design, in Stainless steel. They are in excellent condition with no scratching. The hands have a complex finish, with lume in-fill to the centre, with a polished finish to either side, with a triple grained finish running along the centre body.

The large central second is also Stainless and is in excellent condition.

 

Glass:

The crystal is original and is in perfect condition. It acts as an excellent lens to the TV dial.

 

Crown:

The crown is original and is in perfect condition. It has a neat coin edge finish. It is signed with the Mido name.

 

Case:
