Here we have a large circa 1937 Art Deco Silver cased curved rectangular watch. It measures 26.5mm wide by 33.5mm long, which is an impressive and impactful size for the period. The dial is the two-tone silver finish. The hour markers are large and clear in the Breguet font. The railroad minute track is rectangular, following the flow of the case. It has the bright silver central rectangle. The sub-second dial is rectangular with the classic railroad track. The hands are of the classic sword style in the bright thermally blued tone. To the right is the neat crown which is original, with the neat finish. The case back is subtly curved to fit the wrist and has the hallmarking for Silver from London assay office dating to 1937. It is hinged and opens to reveal the dial and movement. The movement is a 15 jewel Swiss lever calibre, which has been recently serviced and is keeping accurate time for the age.
The dial has the two-tone silver finish, which has a slight darkened tarnishing associated with age. The hour markers are bold with the Breguet stylised font. The railroad minute track is rectangular, with the minute dashes stretching to the corners of the case. To the centre is the bright silver rectangle. Below is the sub-second track which has the railroad track. The hands are thermally blued and are of sword style. The sub-second hand is neat, with the Lollipop counterbalance. The thermally blued tone is bright and eye-catching on both.
The case is well sized, measuring 26.5mm wide by 33.5mm in length. The total lug-to-lug measurement is 40.5mm which further increases the presence. The lug width of 22mm allows a robust width of strap, which compliments the size of the case. Despite the large measurements, it is a comfortable watch due to the curved design and slim depth of 9mm.
The case is formed of two pieces with the front and the hinged back which secures in place tightly. The front has the bevelled surround to the dial, which angles downwards and catches the light. the top and bottom are the wire lugs which are original and strong. To the right-hand side is the neat original crown.
The bottom of the case is curved which makes this a comfortable fit to the wrist. To the rear is the British hallmarking from Glasgow assay office for silver. The date letter ‘O’ dates the watch to 1937/38.
The movement is an unidentified 15 jewel Swiss lever calibre. It has been recently serviced and is keeping accurate time to within -30 seconds per day, with an amplitude of 280 degrees.
The watch is modelled on a 7” wrist circumference
