Here we have a rare and sought after example of a circa 1980s Cartier Santos Carrée ref 2961 with Burgundy Lacquer dial. It has the clean and classic 29mm case proportion with the stainless steel and 18ct gold, two-tone design. Exclusive to the Burgundy dial is the Ruby Cabochon set to the crown. The Burgundy tone lacquered dial has developed a subtle spider crazing associated with ageing, which catches the eye in varying light. It is clean and simple with the luxurious gold ‘Cartier’ text, surround to the date window and ‘Swiss’ signing to the base. The lightly aged hands are of sword style with the tapered central second design. The classic angular design of crown sits between the crown guard with the Ruby Cabochon set to the tip. The case is in excellent condition having been laser welded and refinished to a high standard. This affords a beautiful contrast between the factory sharp case and lightly aged dial with the crazing within the lacquer. The rear of the case is signed with the Cartier name, with the ‘Automatique’ signing. Inside is the original ETA calibre 2671 automatic movement, which has been recently serviced by our watchmaker. It has a daily variation within 5 seconds a day.
 
The watch comes with its original ‘Santos De Cartier’ box, with an international service guarantee card dating to 1992, complete with full model details and matching serial number. It has two spare links which allow it to fit up to an 8-inch wrist diameter.
 
The serial number has lost definition to the first four model digits (2961), but the rest is visible and matches the historic service guarantee. Un-covered serial number images can be supplied.

Dial:
The dial is original and has an even Burgundy tone. There is crazing within the lacquered finish, as expected with age. It is visible only in certain lights. The signing is good and clear.
 
Hands:
The hands are original and of sword style. They have light speckled corrosion associated with natural ageing. 
 
Glass:
The Sapphire crystal is original and is in good condition. It has some slight marks associated with age.
 
Crown:
The crown is original. It has marking associated with age. The Ruby cabochon is good, without any chips or damage.
 
Bezel:
The bezel has been refinished with the correct satin brushed finish. 
 
Case:
The case is in very good condition, having been laser welded and refinishing, ensuring a sharp finish. 
 
Caseback:
The case back is formed of Stainless Steel and has a brushed finish. There are some light scratches. The finish has been gently brushed in the past. The serial number is visible with definition lacking in areas.
 
Bracelet:
The watch comes on its model correct service replacement bracelet from 1992. It is in excellent condition having been laser welded and refinished. It will fit up to an 8 inch wrist circumference. 
 
Movement:
The movement is an ETA calibre 2671 which is a small automatic movement with a hi-beat rate. It has been recently serviced by our watchmaker and has a daily variation of 5 seconds.
