Here we have a beautiful 2014 Longines Conquest Heritage reference L1.611.40.70.4 which is an exact scale modern recreation of the original from 1954. It was released in 2014 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Conquest collection and was limited to just 600 pieces worldwide, with this being number 323/600. The case is formed of stainless steel with the polished finishing. The dial has the silver sunburst finish with the circular brushed ring intercepting the hour markers. The hour markers are applied with the facetted edges, with luminous plots above. The hour and minute hands are of the Dauphine style with the luminous in-fill and central second. Sitting above the dial is the Hesalite crystal, in-fitting with the vintage design. To the right is the Longines signed crown. The case back has the golden fish set in green enamel. It also has the model specifics engraved with the limited-edition number and serial. Inside is the Longines L633 automatic movement which is keeping accurate time. It is presented on its original Longines Alligator strap with signed steel buckle.
This is watch only, with no box or paperwork
I will preface by saying that we are not usually fans of vintage remakes as they often lack a sense of proportion, needlessly increasing the case size to fit modern tastes, which alters the intended design and feel. They also lack the quality finishes and stylised fonts seen on the dials of older watches.
However, this watch makes none of these mistakes. It is faithfully proportioned with a quality dial finish and handsome applied markers plus logo. The rear of the case includes the enamel fish medallion in the green sea, a hallmark of the original model and just as beautiful as the original.
The dial oozes vintage elegance with its brushed silver sunburst finish. It has the circular brushed chapter ring which adds complexity to the dial, leading into the dished outer section. The hour markers are applied to the dial and are the gold tone with the mirror polished finish. They are of a highly stylised design, with the standout wedge shape with double facetted finish. To the base of each marker is the small rectangular luminous plots with the 12 o’clock marker differentiated with the plot above it. The dial is signed with the Longines name below 12 with the famous winged hourglass logo applied to the dial. Below this is the ‘Automatic’ text with the ‘Conquest’ model name. The hands are of the classic facetted Dauphine style from the period, with the luminous in-fill. They match the hour markers with the gold tone mirror polished finish. The central second has the neat, tapered design.
The case matches the original Conquest with a case diameter of 35mm. It has a good presence on the wrist with the 43mm lug to lug length and maintains a slim profile of 11mm.
It is formed of stainless steel and has the polished finish. The bezel neatly surrounds the dial and has the bevelled design, down turning to meet the sides of the case. The lugs are well sized and have the tapered design inwards towards the strap and downwards towards the wrist. To the right-hand side is the well sized crown with the Longines name and logo. The sides of the case have the central notched section with flows in line with the lugs. The rear of the case mirrors the bezel with its bevelled design, drawing it in to the case back and creating symmetry. The case back screws in place and is beautifully finished. It has the polished finish to the exterior with the model specifics, serial number and model reference engraved. Next is the circular brushed section with the Conquest model name and ‘Heritage 1954-2014’ with the limited issue number 323/600. To the centre is the gold medallion with the green enamel sea to the centre, covering the golden fish. It is a stunning design which matches the quality of the original model.
Inside is the Longines L633 Automatic movement, which is based on the ETA 2824. It has a jewel count 25 with a hi-beat rate of 28,800BPH and a 40-hour power reserve. It features the central seconds which are hacking. The service history is unknown, but it is keeping accurate and reliable time with a daily variation of +10 seconds per day, with a strong amplitude of 300 degrees and a beat error of 0.3 m/s.
The watch comes on its original Longines leather strap which is marked as Alligator leather to the upper. It has the original Longines signed stainless steel buckle too. It will fit up to an 18.4cm wrist diameter
The watch is modelled on a 17.78cm wrist circumference
