This is a fairly uncommon and discontinued model that first launched in 2003. The Speedmaster Professional Moon Phase (“Speedy Moon”) retains the essential characteristics of the original Speedmaster models, with a tapered Stainless-Steel case, facetted lugs, stainless bezel with black aluminium ring and Tachymetre scale. The black dial with luminous hour markers and hands is also typical of the Speedmaster Professional, as is the 30-minute counter, 12-hour counter and constant seconds. The presence of the additional sub-dial at 12 O’clock, is what makes this model stand out. It has a moon phase display with a silver moon in relief against a deep blue background. It also has an additional hand to indicate the date around the circumference of the sub-dial. There is Rhodium plated steel rings surrounding the 3 traditional sub-dials.
The 42mm Stainless-Steel case is waterproof to 50m. It is original and remains un-polished. It has various light surface scratches, but no deep scratches or nicks. The bezel is in good condition, with some light and small knocks to the edge in places. The bezel insert is in excellent condition with no marking or damage.
The case is nicely designed with a tapered case and faceted lugs. The top and bottom of the case have a polished finish, whilst the sides are brushed.
The case back is stainless steel and is in good condition. It has light surface scratches to the polished finish. The sapphire crystal exhibition back is in great condition, with no marks. It is signed “Omega, the first and only watch worn on the moon”.
The crown is Stainless Steel, original and in good condition with a polished finish and some light surface scratching. It is signed with the Omega logo. The pushers are Stainless Steel, original and in good condition, with a polished finish and some light surface scratching.
The watch is on its original Stainless-Steel bracelet, reference 1998/849. It will fit up to a 7.75-inch wrist, with a spare link needed for a larger wrist.
The movement is an Omega calibre 1866 movement, which is manually wound chronograph calibre. The chronograph function can record elapsed times with an accuracy of 1/5th of a second and displays the date and moon’s 28-day cycle. It has a 45-hour power reserve and has a rhodium plated finish, which is visible behind the sapphire crystal exhibition back.
The service history is unknown, but the movement is in good condition cosmetically and is keeping very good time within COSC standards. It has a daily gain of -6 seconds, with an amplitude of 300 degrees and a beat error of 0.6m/s.
This is the watch only. It has no accompanying box or paperwork.
