Here we have a seldom seen Dunhill watch from 2005. Known as the ‘Wheel watch’ it is a ‘Petrol head’ limited edition of 1500, coming with either red or yellow accents. It features the 42mm Stainless Steel case with the hidden crown to the right. The bezel has the knurled finish, with the alternate single lugs to either end, resembling the metal spinner holding a wire wheel in place. It has the gloss black dial with the white railroad track to the exterior. It features the hours, minutes and central second hand. To the bottom is the car design encompassing the date window and to the top is the fuel gauge power reserve indicator. There are pops of yellow to the empty indicator on the fuel gauge, as well as the Swiss Made window and central second hand. The case back screws in place and is engraved with the British Bulldog with racing googles. Inside is the ETA 2824-2 A2 movement, with the Dubois-Depraz module for the power reserve. It is in good condition and is keeping accurate time.

The watch is presented on the correct Dunhill leather strap, with the Dunhill deployment clasp.

It comes with its inner and outer box, booklets and Dunhill service invoice from 2021. It lacks its signed guarantee.

Dunhill came up with some fascinating watch designs throughout the 2000s, bringing imagination and fun to their watches. Many watches in this period (including this watch), were designed in conjunction with Tom Bolt ‘Watchguru’. The ‘Wheel watch’ had an original retail price of around £2275.

The dial combines legibility with enjoyable design touches. It has the gloss black base tone with the white signing and railroad track to the exterior. It has the larger dash markers for the hours, with the luminous coating which is good and bright. The time is displayed via the large and bright white hour and minute hands, which also have the luminous in-fill. The central second hand has the lollipop design with the black centre and bright yellow finish. To the top of the dial is the fuel gauge power reserve which is such a fun idea. It has the full, ¾, ½, ¼ and empty markings, with the fuel pump image to the centre. To empty sector is bright yellow, tying in with the other pops of colour on the dial. To the bottom of the dial is the car design which encompasses the date function to the rear of the car. It has the oval date window which has a spirit level style bubble lens over it. The Dunhill signing is set within the car and is the yellow tone. To the base the dial is signed Swiss made with the yellow framing.

The case measures 42mm wide, with a well sized lug to lug length of 55.75mm.

It is formed of stainless steel and is such an unusual design. It has the alternating single lug design to each end with the case evocative of the metal spinners used on wire wheels on vintage sports cars. It is a seamless design with the crown being recessed into the case on the right-hand side. The bezel is a large flat canvas which has the knurled finish, akin to the metal patterns on automotive trim. The lugs are differentiated with the polished finish, with the sides of the case being brushed. To the rear is the screw on case back with 8 notches. It has the circular brushed sunburst finish which catches the eye, as well as the British racing Bulldog to the centre with the googles, hat and scarf.

Inside is the ETA 2824-2 A2 movement. It is a highly reliable automatic movement which we all know and love. It has a jewel count of 25 with a power reserve of 42 hours and a beat rate of 28,800 BPH. It features the Dubois-Depraz module for the power reserve. It was serviced by Dunhill in 2021 and is in good condition, keeping time to within +9 seconds per day, with a strong amplitude of 335 degrees.

It is presented on the correct Dunhill black leather strap with the yellow stitching. It has the Dunhill ‘D’ deployment clasp which is adjustable. It will fit up to an 8” wrist diameter.

As stated, it comes with its inner and outer box, booklets and Dunhill service invoice from 2021. It lacks its signed guarantee.

The watch is modelled on a 7” wrist circumference.
