For sale we have a 2000s Cartier Chronoscaph 21 Ref 2424 in Steel, with a Steel and rubber bracelet, with Cartier deployment clasp. It is a Quartz chronograph diver watch, with a 38mm case and a screw down crown. Both sophisticated and sporty, this is a model that flies under the radar. It has a large roman numeral bezel with a black dial with Cartier logo all over. The sapphire cabochon crown, combined with the bezel make it appear distinctively Cartier.
If you want the maddest mash up between dive watch and dress watch, this is the watch for you. A standout Cartier model which will be noticed.
This is watch only, with no box and papers.
The case measures 38mm x 38mm, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 42mm. It is made of Stainless Steel and has a vibrant sunburst finish to the bezel, which has engraved Roman numerals. The bezel holds the sapphire crystal high and flat, with the date magnifier rising above. The bezel angles downward to meet the nicely curved sides and lugs, with their clean polished finish. The flat case back holds in place with 8 screws and has the Cartier Chronoscaph 21 signing. To the right of the case are the polished chronograph pushers, with the dimpled classic crown, with black painted Cabochon inset. The crown screws down, as expected with sports watch.
The dial further enhances the Cartier styling, not so subtly, but still well executed with a repeated pattern of the Cartier logo. There are three inset sub-dials with concentric circular grained finish. The date window is positioned at 4 O’clock. There is a chapter ring built into the glass, with is a mirror finish with the minute/second markers. This provides a nice step to the dial. The hands are original with luminous in-fill in a silver tone. The sub-dial hands are black painted.
The watch is on a replacement, reproduction of the original Steel and rubber bracelet. These are no longer available and the old rubber cracks. The Cartier deployment buckle is original to the watch and is signed.
The movement is a Cartier 372. This is a rebranded ETA 251 372. It is a quartz chronograph movement, with hours, minutes, running seconds, 30 minute counter and 1/10 second counter. It also has a quickset hour function for time zone changes. The battery has been replaced and the movement is functioning as it should. It’s keeping time and functioning well.
