The 2100 Ultra-slim:

The model that marks a significant milestone in the modern evolution of Blancpain. Introduced in 1994, the 2100 later became known as the Leman series.

Since Blancpain was re-launched in the 1980s, the brand focused on small and pure timepieces, as was fitting with the resurrection of mechanical timepieces, countering the dominance of the quartz watch.

The 2100 series offered a contemporary size at 38mm, with features that made it fitting as an everyday watch. This is a model which has a perfectly sized case, with the later 40mm cases having a less harmonious look and feel.

A unique case, being under 10mm, yet being incredibly robust with a beautifully curved shape. It has long lugs, with a bent down design that adds to the strong feel of the case. The drilled lugs make strap changes very easy to dress the watch up or down.

It has a screw on solid case back, with a large screwdown crown which gives the watch 100m water resistance. To the left-hand side of the case is the engraved Blancpain writing which split opinions originally but is a neatly executed touch of design. It makes use of the canvas provided by traditionally empty space.

The double ring bezel perfectly frames the domed sapphire crystal which has a double anti-reflective coating. It has a blue hue which adds to the charm of the crystal and a fresh look against the white dial.

The multi-layered dial has a subtle matte finish. It is a classic dial with elegant finishing. The outer ring has round white gold appliques with luminous in-fill and simple 1/5th second graduated minute track. The sunken chapter ring contains the applied facetted white gold Roman numerals and indices. JB signing sits at 12 O’clock, with a trapeze shaped aperture for the date at 3 O’clock.

Inside is the calibre 1150/1151 movement, which can be found inside the Villeret or the Fifty Fathoms. At the time, the 100-hour power reserve was huge and offered an additional level of comfort and assurance. With a height of less than 3.25mm, it met the philosophy of Blancpain to create ultra-slim movements.
