1990s Zenith Epervier El Primiero Chronograph Ref 10.0130.400, Stainless and Gold plated, cal 400 movement

 

The case measures 38mm wide without crown and 42mm wide with crown. It has a lug-to-lug length of 46mm and a case depth of 12.5mm. This makes it a large, yet neat watch to wear on the wrist.

The case is made from Stainless Steel and is in very good condition with light surface scratching. The sides have a polished finish with does have light scratches visible. It is original and has not been polished.

 

The dial is original and is in good condition. It has a deep blue sunburst finish which shines beautifully in the light. There are a couple of small marks to the finish above the Zenith signing which is visible when zooming on images or using a loupe. The deep blue base tone is contrasted against the gold tone in-set sub dials which have a bright gold ring around the edge. The numerals are applied gold tone Arabic numerals which match tie together with the sub-dials and hands. The outer track and the Tachymetre are also gold tone. These are in good condition and free of wear. There are lume plots on the hour marks around the outer track. The dial is signed Zenith Epervier Automatic below 12 O’clock and Swiss Made below 6 O’clock. The date window is between 4 and 5 O’clock and has a bevelled edge leading to a white window with black signing.

 

The hands are original, and they are in good condition. They are gold tone with lume in-fill on the hour and minute hand. There is some light scratching to the centre of the hands.

The Sapphire crystal is original and is in good condition with no noticeable scratching. The crown is original and is made of Stainless Steel which has been gold plated. It functions as it should. The plating is free of wear.

The bezel is in good condition, with the gold plating being free of wear. There are no nicks or deep scratches. The black in-fill on the numerals has worn slightly in places.

 

The pushers are in good condition overall. They are gold plated and function as they should. On the underside, there is wear to the gold plated consistent with contact against the wrist. This is visible in the photo of the rear of the watch.

 

The exterior of the case back is clean with nothing more than light surface scratching. It maintains its original graining. The case back is made of Stainless Steel and is in good condition.

It is signed: All Stainless Steel, Bezel Gold Plated, Water Resistant, 50M

The movement is original and is a Zenith calibre 400 with 31 jewels. It dates to 1998 with the serial number 119,579. It has a frequency of 36,000 BPH with a power reserve of 50 hours. It has a 60 second counter, 30 minute counter, 12hr counter, sub-seconds and a quickset date.

Cosmetically the movement is very good, with no visible discolouration or dirt. Functionally the movement has a daily gain of +30 seconds a day, with an amplitude of 280 degrees and a beat error of 0.5 m/s.

 

The strap is a handmade Italian leather Hirsch strap with a deep blue tone. It is in very good condition. The buckle is Stainless Steel and is un-signed.

Strap:

The strap is a handmade Italian leather Hirsch strap with a deep blue tone. It is in very good condition. The buckle is Stainless Steel and is un-signed.

 

Movement:

The movement is original and is a Zenith calibre 400 with 31 jewels. It dates to 1998 with the serial number 119,579. It has a frequency of 36,000 BPH with a power reserve of 50 hours. It has a 60 second counter, 30 minute counter, 12hr counter, sub-seconds and a quickset date. The benefit of the high frequency is to allow you to account for 1/10th second measurements when using the stop watch. This was a movement which was modified to be used in the Rolex Daytona showing its admiration from other brands. The movement is made up of 280 components.

 

The service history of the watch is not known, and the watch has not been serviced by ourselves. Cosmetically the movement is very good, with no visible discolouration or dirt. Functionally the movement has a daily gain of +30 seconds a day, with an amplitude of 280 degrees and a beat error of 0.5 m/s.
