A 1989 Tudor Prince Oyster Date in Two-Tone, reference 72033, with champagne dial, original Tudor bracelet and era correct inner and outer box. This is a lovely example, in good condition, keeping excellent time with its Tudor branded ETA 2824-2.
At 32mm x 32mm with a lug-to-lug measurement of 39.5mm, the watch is neatly proportioned, suitable for both gents or ladies wrists. Oyster cases wear larger than their exact mm size, particularly with a larger lug-to-lug measurement. This wears very neatly on the wrist and is particularly appealing if you’re used to vintage proportions. These models represent increasingly good value for money as Tudor watches rise off of the back of Rolex hype and demand. With Rolex Oyster Dates beginning at the £2500 mark, this model is a good and affordable alternative.
The case is formed of Stainless Steel, with the bezel being gold tone and fluted in style. It is a classic Oyster case with a brushed finish on the lug, falling into a polished finish on the sides, with brushed underside of lugs. The lugs are drilled which makes spring bar removal very easy. The watch has the reference 72033 and serial number 306646 between the lugs.
The case back is Stainless Steel and is in very good original condition. The coin edge finish is in good condition, with minimal signs of scratching. The flat surface of the rear has a grained finish. The inside of the case back is signed “Montres Tudor SA, Geneva Switzerland, Stainless Steel, 74300”.
The dial is a champagne tone with sunburst finish radiating from the centre. This is a clean and minimalistic design. It has simple black minute markers around the exterior of the dial and raised gold tone baton hour markers. Each hour marker has a lume pip sat on the end. The Tudor shield logo is at the 12 O’clock marker and is raised, in gold tone. The dial is signed “Tudor Prince Oysterdate” below 12 O’clock, with Rotor, Self-winding above 6 O’clock. Below 6 O’clock the dial is simply signed Swiss. The date window is a champagne tone, with black Arabic numerals for the date. The date window surround is facetted, falling away neatly to meet the calendar.
The hour and minute hands are original, of baton style in champagne tone. They have a black painted centre which is in good condition. The champagne tone central second is also original and is in good condition.
The sapphire crystal is original and is in good condition with cyclops magnifier. The crown is original of classic Oyster style and is in good condition. It screws down and has a sharp coin edge. It is signed with the Rolex crown.
The watch is on its original Tudor bracelet reference 6248-17, with its original clasp. It is made of Stainless Steel with a gold-plated central section. It has spare links and will fit any wrist size. The bracelet is in very good condition with no obvious wear of the gold plating. The bracelet isn’t worn or sagging. It has its original 455B end links.
The movement is a Tudor branded ETA 2824-2 which has 25 jewels and a high beat rate of 28,800. The service history is unknown, but the movement is in good condition and functioning well. It is keeping time to +1 second a day.
The box has the reference 950071 and is era correct.
