Here we have a 1988 Tudor Prince-Quartz Oysterdate ref 91520, which has the 34mm classic Oyster case. It has the patinated silver dial with the applied baton hour markers with Tudor logo at 12. It has the date window at 3 O’clock with the crystal having the cyclops magnifier. The hands are of baton style with the aged luminous in-fill, with the central second having the tapered finish. The bezel is polished with the brushed finish to the top of the case. To the right is the screw down crown which has the Rolex cornet. The rear of the case is marked with the reference and serial number, with the coin edge screw back having Rolex signing. Inside it is marked with the reference 91520. The movement is the ETA 954.112 6 jewel quartz calibre which is functioning well with new battery. It is presented on its steel Oyster bracelet reference 78370, with the Tudor signed deployment clasp. It will fit up to a 7.75” wrist diameter.
First introduced in the late 1970s, the Tudor Prince-Quartz was manufactured until 1995. It was born out of the Quartz crisis and represented a model which enabled Tudor to fit with the trends and adapt to the new ways of watchmaking. The 91520 was a mid to late 80s model which offers neo-vintage charm with its acrylic crystal and Rolex signed case and crown.
The dial was originally the silver sunburst, which has developed a darkened tone to the lacquer. It has the applied baton hour markers which have the polished finish, with aged luminous plots to the base. At 12 o’clock there is the Tudor shield logo which is also applied. The date window is set at 3 o’clock and has the bevelled edge to the window framing. The date wheel is white with the black Arabic signing. Below 12 o’clock the dial is signed with the Tudor name and the ‘Prince-Quartz’ model. Above 6 o’clock it is signed ‘Oysterdate’, with the Swiss signing to the base. The hands are of a lightly tapered facetted Baton style and have the aged luminous in-fill to the centre. The central second hand has the elegant, tapered finish. The dial and hands are protected by the acrylic crystal which has the cyclops date magnifier.
The case measures 34mm x 33.8mm which makes it a neat watch. As expected with an Oyster crown, it adds to the total width, stretching it to just under 37mm. The lug-to-lug length is also well sized at 42.25mm which further adds to the presence. The 20mm lug width means the bracelet compliments the case well, making it feel more robust.
The case is formed of stainless steel and has polished bezel. It is the classic Oyster case with the top having the brushed finish. It has the curved sides with the polished finish. To the right is the screw down crown which has the Rolex cornet to the face. From the rear it is visible that the case differs due to its use of a central block which is solid, appearing like the traditional end links. There is the central section for the bracelet pin to pass through. It has the circular brushed finish to the rear with the serial number and reference clearly visible to the top. The coin edge case back screws in place and has the circular brushed exterior. The face has light linear brushed with the etched Rolex case signing. Inside it is signed with the Tudor name, case composition and the reference 91520.
The movement is the ETA 954.112 6 jewel quartz calibre which is functioning well with new battery. It is a replacement which lacks the Tudor branded sticker.
The Oyster bracelet is formed of steel and is the reference 78370. It has the Tudor signed deployment clasp and is well sized, able to fit up to a 7.75” wrist diameter. It has the M12 clasp code which dates to 1988.
The watch is modelled on a 7” wrist circumference.
