For sale we have an unusual and rare mid 1980s tank watch by Universal Geneve. At first is appears to be a tank shaped dress watch with a black dial. However it also possesses digital time and a variety of functions, enabled by the ETA 988.331 Analogue-Digital quartz movement. It can display digital time, a countdown timer, second time zone, chronograph stopwatch, alarm, date and month. Combined with its classic design, this makes it a very unusual watch and something of a sleeper watch.

The tank shaped case measures 28mm wide x 29mm in length, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 36mm. It also has a slim depth of 6.25mm, making it a comfortable wear. The case is 18ct gold electroplated and this appears to be a sturdy and thick plating, with no wear and a beautiful tone. The case has a flat rectangular front, with a well-designed tri stepped sides which provide depth and texture to the design.

The crystal is acrylic and has no marking. It has the Universal Geneve signing to the inside in a gold tone. Below is the LCD screen, which has a black sheen, much like onyx dials on 1970s tank watches. By adjusting the crown, the digital aspect is brought to life, making use of the full screen to demonstrate its functions. The crown is neatly recessed to the right-hand side.

To the rear is the stainless-steel back, with its brushed finish. It has clear engraving with the case composition and serial number. The screw heads are good with polished finish. Inside it is signed with the reference 8620, with Universal signing. It has the original shaped gasket which is still soft and flexible.

Inside is the original ETA 988.331 movement, with Universal Geneve calibre 96 signing. It is a 7 jewel Quartz Analogue Digital movement with many functions. It works well, with all aspects functioning as they should. It has had a new battery fitted.

It is presented on its original Universal Geneve leather strap, with the original gold filled buckle, both in un-worn condition.
