An unusual and uncommonly seen model in Quartz. This is the same as the Tudor 9101 but with a quartz movement, which is an unusual quirk during a turbulent time for the watch industry.

This is a nice example from 1979 and is of excellent quality, it’s no wonder this model has seen a good increase in value in the last 5 years. The main body is a classic Oyster case, with Rolex signed screw down crown, with a 1980s twist. The case is larger in diameter at 38mm and there is a thick fluted bezel, with a chapter ring surrounding the silver dial to add depth to the watch. The acrylic crystal with cyclops is original, as is the grained sunburst silver dial with 3D applied batons and logos. The watch sits on an integrated Stainless-Steel bracelet, with heavy and chunky links. This is a comfortable and well-designed bracelet. Inside the Oyster screw back is an ESA 940.111 7 jewel quartz movement which is functioning very well and is in great cosmetic condition.

The watch has had a new battery fitted and its contacts cleaned. It is keeping good time and is cosmetically very clean inside.

A good example of an interesting watch to add to your collection.

The dial is a silver base tone with a lightly grained sunburst finish, radiating from the centre. There is an inner chapter ring surrounding the dial, which rises to meet the glass and bezel edge. This adds intriguing depth to the dial. It is silver with black dash markers for the minutes and seconds. It has lume pips on the hour markers which are original. The hour markers are applied champagne tone batons, which are raised with a laser etched finish, between mirrored finishes. These catch the light nicely. The Tudor shield logo is applied at 12 O’clock and is raised with a mirror finish. The dial is signed Tudor Prince-Quartz at 12 O’clock, with Oysterdate above 6 O’clock. Below 6 O’clock it is signed Swiss. The dial falls away in a faceted design to meet the date window. The date window is white with black Arabic numerals.

The hour and minute hands are original, of stick style in silver tone. They have a lume filled centre which is intact. The silver central second is also original and is in good condition.

The crystal is the original acrylic and has some fine and light scratches consistent with age. The cyclops is in good condition.

The crown is original of classic Oyster style and is in good condition. It screws down and has a sharp coin edge. It is signed with the Rolex crown.

The case is formed of Stainless Steel and is in good condition. The bezel has an alternating polished and lined finish with of fluted style. It has light surface scratches consistent with age. It is a classic Oyster case with a brushed finish on the lug, falling into a polished finish on the sides, with brushed underside of lugs. The case has been refinished in the past.

The case back is Stainless Steel and is in good condition. The coin edge finish is good and free of damage. The flat surface of the rear has a polished finish. It is signed “Original Oyster Case by Rolex Geneva” and “Stainless Steel”.

The inside of the case back is signed “Montres Tudor SA, Geneva Switzerland, Patented, Stainless Steel, C R S”.

The watch is on its original bracelet, an integrated 9585 solid link bracelet, signed Rolex on the folding section with Tudor shield logo on the buckle. It will fit up to an 8-inch wrist. The Tudor shield logo is visible, but has been very polished.

The movement is an ESA 940.111, which is branded Tudor. It is a quartz calibre with central second, with a jewel count of 7. The movement capable of 10-15 second deviation a year, despite thermocompression. These are uncommon movements now.

The watch has had a new battery fitted and its contacts cleaned. It is keeping good time and is cosmetically very clean inside.
