1977 Vintage Omega Seamaster 1660206, Cal 1012 movement, 1286/249 bracelet
This is a beautiful reference, which is slightly different to the usual Omega Seamaster dress watches. You can tell it’s a watch from the late 1970s, transitioning into the early 1980s. It doesn’t have the same early 70s bulk and heft that many Stainless cases have, whilst still having a slightly helmet shaped case as a nod to that period. It wears exceptionally on the wrist as it is very neat.
The dial is incredibly eye catching, along with the red painted central second hand. Stand out with a reference you won’t see everyday.
The case measures 35mm wide without crown, but 34.50mm long without lugs. It is a nicely sized case which wears closely to the wrist, being quite thin itself. The case back and glass add a lot of depth. T
he case is Stainless Steel and is in very good condition, despite never having been polished. It has sharp bevelled edges, with a brushed finish all over. There are some light surface scratches. The bezel is in good condition also and is smooth, with a polished finish. The case back is stainless steel and it has no dents and only light surface scratching. It has the Omega Seamaster Seahorse engraving to the middle of the case back.
The dial is in good condition with a silver satin sunburst lacquered finish. All signing and tracks are clean and without wear. Signed Omega Automatic to 12 O’clock, with Seamaster and T SWISS MADE T to 6 O’clock. The batons are applied along with the Omega symbol and the silver date window. The original Tritium lume dots remain on the hour markers. The date window is bordered with a silver square, which falls away to a bevelled finish to meet the date window. The date window is an aged silver tone which is slightly creamy. The date writing is black and is clear.
There are a few marks where the lacquer has been damaged, one near 3 O'clock and one to the left-hand side of the Omega signing. This doesn’t detract from the beauty of the dial and doesn’t show signs of deteriorating further any time soon.
The hands are original. They are silvered "stick/baton" style hands, made of Stainless Steel. The Second hand has a red painted lower half. The crystal is the original acrylic example. The crown is also original and signed with the Omega symbol. It is a chunky crown, in-fitting with the 1970s design of the case. Both are in good condition. T
he movement is a calibre 1012 from Omega. The serial number is 40,558,227, which means the watch was produced in 1977. The movement is very user friendly with good functions. When setting the time, the watch has the hacking feature which stops the second hand, allowing for accurate time setting. The quickset date is also very handy and saves lot of cycling of the hands. Pull the crown to the first setting and turn to alter the date. It is capable of going both forwards and back.
It has a daily gain of +6 seconds, with an amplitude of 332 and a beat error of 0m/s. It has the original Omega buckle which is also correct to this bracelet and model.
It will fit from a 6” wrist to an 8.5” wrist. It is signed 1286/249.
