For sale we have a beautiful and well-kept example of a 1976 IWC reference 4405-2230A. It has a 21mm 18ct yellow gold classic 1970s C shaped case. The bezel has an excellent sunburst finish, which shines in the light. To the rear is the screwback case with serial number and inside is the automatic IWC movement. The watch comes with its original gold-plated buckle, as well as its box and paperwork.

The case measures 21mm x 21mm, with a 26mm lug-to-lug measurement. It is a neat case which carries significant presence with its use of finishing. The brushed sun-burst finish to the bezel is excellent and catches the light. It is a classic design of the 1970s with the extra bezel canvas, provided by the C-shaped case. It has polished case sides with a bevelled finish that further interacts with the light and adds depth to the case. The 12-sided screwback is thick and well formed with the serial numbed engraved. It has the original brushed finish. The case is marked to the rear of the lug with the Swiss hallmarking Head of Helvetia. In-between the lugs it has the .750 marking also for 18ct. To the right is the chunky coin edged crown.

The dial is a champagne tone with a brushed sun-burst finish radiating from the centre. This is the perfect finish which compliments the bezel, further increasing the eye-catching finish and radius of the rays. It has simple applied baton hour markers, in a gold tone with the black painted centre. The hands are of stick style and are also black painted, with the gold centre. The dial is simply signed International Watch Co., Automatic, Swiss.

Inside is the IWC automatic calibre. It has a jewel count of 23, with a frequency of 19,800 BPH. It also has shock protection. It is keeping time to within +45 seconds a day.

The watch is presented on a red leather strap, with the gold plated IWC buckle. The buckle is marked ‘Unroc’, as 10 microns plated.

The watch comes in its original gold tone box with textured finish. It also has its gold tone guarantee booklet which is signed, stamped and dated 24/1/1976.

It has the original purchase invoice from Boodle & Dunthorpe, of 35 Lord Street, Liverpool. It had an original purchase price of £200, which is £1300 in today money.

This is an excellent example, in very good condition, with all of its original accompaniments. A stunning watch to wear every day, or on a special occasion.
