For sale we have a 1973 ladies Omega 9ct gold dress watch, which has an English made case by Shackman & Sons. It has an uncommon central second hand, with the calibre 630 movement. It has an excellent silver sunburst dial and is a classic and elegant design.

The OWC case mark stands for Omega Watch Company (England) Limited. It also has the “S” mark which is the trademark for Shackman and Sons. They were based in London and were jewellers who manufactured cases to retail Swiss made watches in the UK market. This was commonplace to avoid import costs on complete watches and gold from other countries, which were very high in this period. Swiss watch manufacturers such as Rolex, Omega, Longines, Baume & Mercier, Universal Geneve etc, would sell movements and dials to companies such as Shackman and Sons and Dennison, who would then case them and sell them in the UK market. In this case, with OWC signing, this was done under official license by Omega.

The case is well proportioned, measuring 22mm x 22mm, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 28mm. The two-piece case is 9ct gold. It is circular, with a slight notched bezel, polished case sides and straight tapered lugs. To the right, the crown appears to be original and is gold plated with Omega logo.

The snap on case back is formed of 9ct gold and has a polished outside with a brushed face. Inside it has English hallmarking for 9ct gold from London assay office, dating to 1973.

The silver sunburst dial is in excellent condition. The applied hour markers are a gold tone, with good black painted centre which ties in the design with the hands neatly. It has simple dash markers for the seconds. It has the Omega signing and logo below 12 O’clock, with Swiss Made signing below 6.

The hands are original of sword style in a gold tone which is black painted. It also has a neat tapered central second hand.

The watch is presented on a period correct Tressuflex expanding bracelet, made in Italy. It is gold plated and is in good condition with only some signs of wear on the ends.

The movement is an Omega Cal 630. It is manual wind, with a jewel count of 17, a frequency of 19,800 BPH and a power reserve of 42 hours. It has the benefit of a sweep second hand. It has a daily loss of -70 seconds, with an amplitude of 295 degrees and a beat error of 0.1m/s.
