Here we have a clean example of a 1972 Omega Genève watch. It has the angular 35mm steel case, with brushed top of the case and is the reference 1360049. It features a satin brushed silver dial with the applied baton hour markers, with date window at 3 o’clock. It is signed with the Omega name and logo below 12, with the Geneve model above 6. The hands are of bevelled Index style and have the black in-fill with luminous tips. The central second hand is black with the tapered design. The flat-top crystal is original and has the Omega etching to the centre. The case has the flat front with brushed finish and bevelled lugs to the top and bottom. It has the flat case sides with the Omega signed crown to the right. To the rear is the screw in caseback with the presentation engraving “Presented to Mr G.S.Robinson by Clarkson International Tools Ltd, In recognition of 25 years service”. Inside the case is signed with the reference and Louis Lang case maker mark. The movement is the manual wind Omega calibre 613 which is in good condition and is keeping accurate time. The watch is presented on its original steel ‘1502’ bracelet with the Omega signed deployment clasp.
The dial is a silver tone and matches the vertical brushing to the top of the case, with the brushed satin finish. It has the simples dash minute/seconds markers to the exterior with applied baton hour markers. The batons are silver, with the facetted design and black stripe to the centre. To the base they have the original luminous plots. 12 o’clock is differentiated with the double marker and the date window sits at 3 o’clock. It has the black painted frame with the bevelled window, which leads to the silver satin date wheel with black Arabic numerals. Below 12 o’clock is the Omega logo and signing, with the ‘Geneve’ text sitting above 6 o’clock. To the base of the dial is the -Swiss Made- text. The hands are of bevelled Index style with the black infill to the centre, making the hour markers. Closer to the tip is the luminous in-fill which is original and nicely aged. The central second hand is black, also tying in with the hour markers, with the neat, tapered finish.
The case is well proportioned, measuring 35mm x 35mm, with a lug-to-lug length of 42mm adding presence. It has a depth of 10mm which ensures it is a comfortable wear.
It is an angular design with the unusual flat-top case with the brushed finish. The acrylic crystal has the flat top and sits above the front of the case. It is original and has the Omega etching to the centre. The top and bottom of the case has a definitive line which had the angular downturn towards the wrist. This flat box shape is intriguing and catches the eye. The sides of the case are flat, with the polished finish. To the right-hand side is the well sized Omega signed crown. The rear of the case has the circular brushing. The case back screws in place with 6 notches. It has the polished finish to the exterior with the brushed face. It has the presentation engraving “Presented to Mr G.S.Robinson by Clarkson International Tools Ltd, In recognition of 25 years service”. Inside it is signed with the Omega name, the reference 1360049 and the ‘LL’ mark for the case maker Louis Lang.
The movement is the Omega calibre 613. It is manually wound and has a jewel count of 17, with incabloc shock protection. It operates at a frequency of 19,800 BPH and features a quickset date, changed by pulling the crown out. The service history is unknown, but the movement is very clean and consistently keeps accurate time to within 15 seconds variation per day.
The bracelet is the model correct reference 1502 which is a 1970s take on the beads of rice style, having a more rectangular and facetted approach. The end links are straight and perfectly fit the straight, angular form of the case. It has the brushed deployment clasp with the well-defined Omega logo. It is a full-length bracelet which will fit up to an 8.5” wrist diameter.
The watch is modelled on a 7” wrist circumference.
