Here we have an unusual 1970s Zenith steel cased thin dress watch. It is the reference 01-0111-185, of which we have not seen another. It has the linear brushed blue dial with the applied baton hour markers, with white striping. The Zenith logo is in white with the applied star logo. The date window is offset between 4 and 5 o’clock. It has the 35mm steel case which is thin, with the polished finish and straight lug design. To the right is the crown with the Zenith logo. The case back snaps on and is signed with the reference. The movement is a Zenith branded Peseux 7001, which is manual wind. It has been recently serviced and is keeping accurate time. It comes on an Italian made blue leather strap.

This is a clean dress watch with the pop of colour from the blue dial, that makes it a joy to wear.

We love a blue dial due to the depth and luxury of the colour. This blue tone catches the eye, with its electric blue tone in the light. It has the subtle linear brushing which also aids the reactivity with the light. The silver tone hour batons are applied and have the polished finish, with a white stripe to the centre. The minute dashes are in the bright white, as is the ‘Zenith’ text. Above the Zenith name is the applied star logo. The date window is offset between 4 and 5 o’clock, with the tapered design. It has the white surround with the facetted surround. The wheel itself is also blue, with the white date numerals. To the base the dial is signed ‘Swiss made’. The watch has just the hour and minute hands which are the silver baton style. They have the white painted stripe to the centre which ties in with the hour markers.

The case measures 35mm x 35mm with the lug-to-lug width of 41.75mm adding further presence. Despite its good sizing, it has a slim depth of 7.5mm which makes it a comfortable and elegant wear.

It is formed of stainless steel with the snap-on bezel and case back. The bezel is dished, falling away to meet the flat sides. The lugs are neat and straight, angling down towards the wrist. The sides of the case are flat with the polished finish. The right-hand side has the notched crown with the Zenith star logo to the face. The rear of the case has the dished design, symmetrical to the bezel. The snap-on back has the polished exterior with the horizontal brushed finishing. It has the reference signing to the exterior. Inside it is signed with the ‘MZ’ logo and marked as Stainless Steel and Swiss made.

The movement is a Zenith signed Peseux calibre 7001. It is a 17-jewel manual wind movement which has the semi-quickset date function. It has been recently serviced and is keeping accurate time to within 10 seconds variation per day.

The watch is paired with a deep blue Italian made leather strap, which compliments the eye-catching blue dial.

The watch is modelled on a 7” wrist circumference.
