For sale we have an original example of a mid 1970s Zenith Defy Stainless Steel watch. It is the reference 01.0020.380 which has a tonneau shaped case, measuring 37mm in diameter by 45mm long. It has a facetted case design with hidden lugs and a classic 1970s mix of polished and brushed surfaces. The dial is eye catching with its smoked brown tone with lighter graduation to the centre. The hour markers are three-dimensional applied and are stepped. The Zenith logo is also applied, whilst there is an offset date window between 4 & 5 o’clock. It has the original glass, with the correct gasket surrounding it. To the right is the original signed crown. The screwback is marked as ‘Surf Stainless Steel’, with Zenith signing to the inside. It has a Zenith cal 2572PC hi-beat movement, with a jewel count of 17. It is automatic, with sweep second and quickset date. It has been recently serviced by ourselves.
It is presented on its original Steel Chatelain bracelet with signed Zenith clasp. It will fit up to an 8” wrist diameter.
It comes with a period and potentially original Zenith box.

Dial:
The dial is an original example, which is in good condition. The base tone is a silver to smoked brown hue, with a powdered finish. The applied hour markers are good with original lume. The signing is all good and clear.
Hands:
The hour and minute hand are original. They are of baton style. They are polished silver tone with slight corrosion and some small scratches. It has a white painted centre with lume in-fill, which is original and in good condition.
Glass:
The glass is original and is in excellent condition. It has been polished by a lens manufacturer. This ensures that the original glass remains, but in great condition.
Crown:
The crown is original with Zenith logo and is in good condition, functioning well.
Case:
The steel case is in decent original condition. It remains unpolished, with light surface scratching associated with its age. The brushed finishes are well defined.
Caseback:
The case back is stainless steel and is in original condition. It has a polished outside, with the original brushed finish to the flat. It has 6 notches for case opening. It has the original signing and reference which is clear. It has light surface scratching and marking associated with age. It has some marks from poor opening.
Bracelet:
The watch is on its original Steel Chatelain bracelet with signed Zenith clasp. It has the original brushed finish, with light surface scratching. It will fit an 8 inch wrist diameter.
Movement:
The watch has been recently serviced by us. The movement is in good condition cosmetically and is keeping good time. It has a daily variation of +/-7 seconds, with an amplitude of 240 degrees and a beat error of 0.3m/s.
