Here we have a mid 1970s Zenith Surf Stainless Steel watch, with its original integrated bracelet. It is the reference 02.0700.380 which is a classic television design. The case measures 35mm and has a brushed finish, with the angular design. To the right is the Zenith signed crown. The dial has a silver chapter ring with the hour markers, with a darker central section with the Zenith signing. The hands are of stick style with the black painted centre, with the central second hand. There is a date function, which is quickset. The bracelet is integrated and is formed of steel with the brushed finish. The case back is a screw back, which is signed Zenith inside. It is powered by the Zenith calibre 2572PC movement, which is keeping accurate time. It comes on its original Zenith Chatelain bracelet with the fold over deployment buckle, which will fit up to a 7.75” wrist (19.7cm)
The dial is the charcoal grey tone with the matte finish. It has the applied baton hour markers in the silver tone. They have the facetted sides which combined with the polished finish, enables them to interact with the light as you turn your wrist. They have the luminous plots to the ends which have darkened with age. In-between are the minute dashes in the white tone. The date window sits at 3 o’clock with the bevelled edges to the window and the aged white tone base with black numerals. The Zenith logo is applied below 12 o’clock with the ‘Zenith’ name below. Above 6 o’clock it has the ‘Defy’ model signing and automatic text.
The hands are of the index style and have the luminous strip to the centre, which has the aged tone. The central second is slim, in the silver tone.
The case is well proportioned, measuring 37.25mm x 36.75mm. It has a total width of 41mm with the screw down crown and 42.35mm in length, end to end with the central attachment. The strap matches the width of the top of the case at 28mm, with its integrated design.
The case is the 1970s tonneau TV inspired shape with the polished bezel surrounding the dial, which holds the original flat top crystal with the waterproof gasket underneath. The top of the case has the brushed finish with the top and bottom subtly curving downwards. The central second of the case extends, attaching to the integrated chatelain bracelet.
The sides of the case have the polished bevel to the outside, before flowing into the flat case sides with the brushed finish. To the right is the original screw down crown which is well sized and has the Zenith logo to the face.
The rear of the case has the brushed finish with the case back screwing in place. It has the dished design with the polished exterior and the flat face with the brushed finish. It is engraved with the model reference ’02.0380.380’ and has the ‘Surf Stainless Steel’ signing. Inside it is signed with the Zenith name and has the logo.
The movement is the Zenith calibre 2572 PC which is a 17 jewel automatic movement. It is shockprotected and has a frequency of 28,800 BPH. It is in good condition, keeping accurate time to within 7 seconds variation per day.
The watch is presented on its original Zenith Chatelain bracelet with the signed fold over deployment buckle. It is the integrated design and personally, is one of my favourite bracelet designs full stop. The brushed finish to the top, with the polished edges makes for a sturdy and luxurious integrated design. It will fit up to a 7.75” wrist (19.7cm)
The watch is modelled on a 7" wrist circumference.
