This is a very pleasant 1970s play on a dress watch by Record, under their De Luxe line. This is a no expense spared which, with a high quality and heavy 9ct gold case, of unusual design. The rectangular design is an elegant play on the 1970s TV style watches, with hooded lugs, creating a lovely, chunky but elegant dress piece. The case measures 30mm x 38mm, remaining neat with a case depth of 9.5mm. The crown is original and is signed “R” for Record.

The dial is simple and elegant with a light silver base tone, with a lightly grained finish, matching the bezel. It has gold tone applied rectangular markers with a bevelled line, which matches the hands. The date indicator is at 5 O’clock.

The movement is a Hi-Beat calibre from ETA, dating to the 1970s. It is automatic, has sweep second and a date function. It operates at a frequency of 28,800 BPH.

 

The case back is made of gold and snaps in place. It is in good condition, with a small dimpled dent and light surface scratching. The main face has a brushed finish, whilst the rest is polished.

 

The inside of the case back has perlage finishing. It is hallmarked for British imported gold, with the London assay office mark. It has the date letter “t”, meaning it is from 1974/75. It is signed “Record watch co. Tramelan Swiss. The serial number is 313262.

 

The hands are gold in tone and are in very good condition, free of bending and corrosion.

They are baton shaped, with a bevel running along the centre. They are all original.

 

The crystal is original and is in average condition. It has some scratches with are associated with wear. These tend to be more visible in certain lights, so do not detract from the overall look of the watch or clarity.

 

The crown is original and is in good condition. It is signed with “R” for Record. It is gold plated and has one slight loss of plating on the face of it, at the bottom of the R.

 

The movement is a Hi-Beat calibre from ETA. The movement is in very good condition for its age cosmetically and functionally. The service history is not known. It has a daily gain of +6 seconds, with an amplitude of 270 and a beat error of 0.0m/s.

Dial:

The dial is simple and elegant with a light silver base tone. It has a lightly grained finish which matches the finish on the bezel and ties in the design nicely. The hour markers are applied rectangular markers, in a gold tone, with a bevelled line, matching the hands. They are raised and provide depth to the dial. The dial is signed “Record De Luxe” below 12 O’clock, with the signing “Automatic” above the 6 O’clock, with “Swiss Made” below 6 O’clock. The date window is placed at 5 O’clock as was typical in some 1970s watch designs. It is flanked by a black box, with a white bevel leading to the date window. The date window itself is white, with clear Arabic numerals. The dial is in good condition, with a couple of scratches.

 

Hands:

The hands are gold in tone and are in very good condition, free of bending and corrosion.

Glass:

The crystal is original and is in average condition. It has some scratches with are associated with wear. These tend to be more visible in certain lights, so do not detract from the overall look of the watch or clarity.

Case:

The case is made of 9ct gold. The case is neatly designed and is rectangular, being a elegant play on the 1970s TV style wrist watches. It is an unusual case design, with hooded lugs. It is a well-made and heavy case, weighing 15g in total, demonstrating a no expense spared approach. The bezel has a light grained finish which is very eye catching, whilst the sides have a polished finish which catches the light nicely. The case is in good condition with light surface scratching and a few light nicks as expected with age. This are much more visible in images than on the wrist.

 

Caseback:

The case back is made of gold and snaps in place. It is in good condition, with a small dimpled dent and light surface scratching. The main face has a brushed finish, whilst the rest is polished.
