Here we have a statement 1970s Mondia chronograph watch, reference 02.809.60. It is a hulking 44mm steel case which is the unusual helmet shape. It has the brushed finish with polished bevels to the sides. To the right are the two pushers for the chronograph with the signed crown recessed into the case inbetween. The dial is surrounded by the white Tachymetre scale. It has the racing dial layout with the chequered sections around the minute markers and the tapered sub-dials for the constant seconds and 30 minute counter. The powder grey tone covers the section with the applied hour markers, with the green central sector. The date sits at 6 o’clock. The hands are of baton design with luminous in-fill and the central second and sub-dial hands are the florescent Orange which catches the eye. The case back has a beautiful, detailed Lunar scene, with what seems to relate to the Apollo 11 moon landing. The movement is the Valjoux calibre 7734 which is a chronograph movement. It has been recently serviced and is keeping accurate time.

The dial is impressive and eye catching with its mix of colours and textures. Around the exterior is the white Tachymetre scale. Within this is the chequered racing dial design with the alternating dark and powder grey sectors. Above the hour markers are luminous dashes which help highlight the hour markers. The hour markers are applied with the silver tone. They are at 11, 12 and 1, as well as 5 and 7. At 6 o’clock it has the date window, with the batons to either side filled with the tapered sub dials. To the left is the constant seconds register with the 30 minute counter to the right. Below 12 o’clock is the applied Mondia logo with Mondia signing in white. The hands are of silver baton style with the luminous in-fill. The central second hand has the rectangular block. This block design continues on to the sub-second hands. They are all in the bright florescent Orange tone which helps them stand out.

The case is similarly eye catching with its large diameter of 44mm! It is an unusual helmet shape, not quite circular, not quite oval. It has the brushed finish to the bezel surrounding the dial. It has the polished bevels to the sides, cutting in with the dished profile. To the right are the polished pushers for the Chronograph function. The crown nestles neatly into the recess in the side of the case. It has the coin edge finish with the Mondia logo. To the rear is the screwback with the brushed finish around the outside. It has the engraved features and reference number to the surround. To the centre is the impressive and detailed engraving, which features the lunar scene. It appears to show the Apollo 11 moon landing, with the lunar module and surface of the moon.

Inside it is signed with the Mondia name with the sunburst finish.

The movement is a Valjoux calibre 7734. It is manually wound and has a jewel count of 17 with a frequency of 18,000 BPH. It displays the hour and minute hands with the central 60 second chronograph hand. It also displays the constant seconds and the 30 minute counter. It also has a date function which is set at 6 o’clock.

It has been recently serviced and is keeping accurate time to within 5 seconds a day, with an amplitude of 340 degrees and a beat error of 0.2 m/s.
