Here we have an eye-catching early 1970s Lanco Chronograph watch. It is in impressive nearly new old stock condition, with just a light nick to the edge of the bezel and a light scratch to the dial.

It has the standout deep blue sunburst dial, which radiates in the light. The sub-dials have the turquoise and grey tones with the outer tachymetre/telemetre scale have the turquoise base tone. The baton hour markers are clear in the white tone, tying in with the whit painted hands. To the centre is the bright orange central second, with the 30-minute hands also the bright orange. The case is well sized at 38mm wide with the satin brushed bezel. To the right is the chunky crown and chronograph pushers with the screw back to the rear. The movement is a Valjoux 7733 manual wind chronograph which has been recently serviced and is keeping accurate time.

We adore this watch due to its condition and fresh finishes. The dial layout and design has so much to enjoy. You are immediately drawn to the deep blue sunburst dial. Its reactive to the light, radiating outward as you move your wrist. The outside of the dial features a muted turquoise ring which has the Tachymetre/Telemetre scale on it in the bright white tone. To the edge of the sunburst centre are the detailed 1/5th second graduations for accurate timing. The baton hour marks are broad with the bright white tone. To the base of each is the Tritium luminous plots. It has the constant second sub-dial at 9 o’clock with the 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock. They have the grey outer ring with the turquoise centre and cross hair finish. The white signing is once again bright and legible.

Below 12 o’clock is the ‘Lanco Swiss’ signing with ’17 jewels, incabloc’ above 6 o’clock. Each side of 6 o’clock is the ‘T Swiss Made T’ text.

The hands are of index style with the white painted finish and the luminous in-fill to the tips. The central second hand has the tapered design with the bright orange tone that helps it stand out. The 30 minute counter hand also has the matching bright orange tone.

The case is well proportioned measuring 38mm wide, with a lug-to-lug length of 41mm. It is a classic C-shaped case which first appeared in the late 1960s into the early 1970s. These cases having a thin polished bezel surround with the top of the case angling down. This provides a perfect canvas for the radial brushed finish, which combines with the dial sunburst to create a piece which is beautifully reactive with the light.

There is a polished bevel to the edge of the top which flows into the flat polished case sides. To the right-hand side are the chronograph pushers which have the polished finish. The chunky original crown is sandwiched in-between them and is easy to use due to its size and finish. The front of the case is chrome plated, which is in excellent original condition. The rear of the case is formed of Stainless Steel. It is marked as ‘water-resistant’ and ‘anti-magnetic’.

Inside is the Valjoux 7733 which is a manual wind chronograph calibre. It has a jewel count of 17, with a 45-hour power reserve and a frequency of 18,000 BPH. It has been recently serviced and has a daily variation of +5 seconds a day, with an amplitude of 340 degrees and a beat error of 0.1 m/s.

The watch comes on its period suede finish leather strap which is in good condition.

The watch is modelled on a 7” wrist circumference.
