For sale we have a lovely example of a 1970 Tudor Prince Oysterdate Jumbo model, in a uncommon 37.5mm bi-metal case, Stainless body with 18k gold fluted bezel. It is the Reference 7025/3, with a champagne tone brushed sunburst dial. It has grained accents on the stepped hour markers and the centre of the hands. Inside is an automatic ETA 2752 movement with shock protection hacking seconds and semi quickset date.
The dial is original and is in good condition for the age. It has a beautiful, brushed sunburst finish in a classy Champagne tone. It has stepped gold tone applied hour markers, which have a raised and grained central strip which adds a touch of texture and luxury to the dial. They have lume plots to the base. The minute/second markers are simple dashes, whilst the Tudor shield logo is applied in a mirror polished gold tone at 12 O’clock. These markers are neatly balanced with the facetted date window at 3 O’clock, with base white background and black Arabic numerals. It is signed Tudor Prince Oysterdate, Rotor Self-winding, with Swiss at the foot of the dial.
The hands are original and of Luminous baton style. The lume in-fill on the hour hand is original, whilst the minute hand lume has been replaced. The gold tone central second is also original.
The watch has a classic Oyster case in an unusually large proportion, affectionally named the “Jumbo”. It measures 37.5mm x 37.5mm, with a width of 41mm with crown and a lug-to-lug measurement of 47.5mm. This makes it’s a statement dress piece, with out of the ordinary presence for the era.
It has a Stainless-Steel main body with sharp drilled lugs. The brushed finish to the top is excellent, with the polished finish to the sides of the case. Surrounding the crystal is a neat 18ct gold fluted bezel which catches the eye as it playfully reflects the light. Between the lugs it is correctly marked with reference 7025/3 at 12 O’clock and serial number at 6 O’clock. On the right side of the case is a beautiful classic Oyster screwdown crown. It has sharp edges with the cornet logo to the side.
To the rear is a screw back with coin edge finish. It has an excellent circular brushed finish to the exterior with a flat polished face. The engraving is clean, stating “Original Oyster case by Rolex Geneve”. Inside it is signed Montres Tudor S.A. Geneve Switzerland Patented, Stainless Steel C.R.S, 7024 25.
The acrylic crystal is original with cyclops magnifier for the date. It has a slight dint at 9 O’clock.
The watch is on a period NOS 20mm Apollo Genuine Crocodile strap, with unsigned buckle. This will fit up to an 8” wrist circumference.
The movement is an ETA 2782 which is marked Tudor and has a higher standard of finishing. It is automatic, with sweep second, quickset date and hacking feature. It has a jewel count of 25, a frequency of 21,600 BPH and a power reserve of 47 hours. The movement was last serviced 3 years ago and has a daily variation of +15 seconds a day with an amplitude of 270 degrees.
