Here we have an unusual and elegant square steel cased Longines watch, dating to 1966. It is the reference 7759-1 which features the powder black dial with applied baton markers and impactful roman numerals to the quarters. It has the Longines text below 12 with the famous winged hourglass logo. The hands are of classic index style in the silver tone. The square case has the notched bezel, holding the complex curved crystal. The top of the case flows downwards with the mitered corner. The Longines signed crown is recessed to the right-hand side. The case back snaps in place and has the brushed finish. Inside it is signed with the case reference. The movement is a Longines calibre 428, which is manually wound and is keeping accurate time.
The dial is simple and elegant. It has the powered black finish which has a subtle matte texture. For the hour markers it has a mix of applied dash hour markers and chunky roman numerals to the quarters. The markers have the mirror polished finish which catches the light. Below 12 o’clock the ‘Longines’ name is signed in the white print, with the applied winged hourglass logo below. Below 6 o’clock is the ‘Swiss made’ text. It displays only the hours and minutes with the silver tone index style hands.
The case measures 29mm x 27mm with a total lug-to-lug length of 34.5mm. It has a slim depth of 6.8mm which makes it an elegant wear on the wrist.
It is formed of stainless steel and has a wonderful square design. The notched bezel frames the dial and holds the slim profile complex curved crystal. It has the polished finish which catches the light. The top of the case has the lightly brushed finish with the mitered corners which flow beautifully. It is reminiscent of the way in which a frame assembles to surround a painting and also closely resembles the flow of Ovolo timber moulding. It has the short straight lugs which blend into the case and curve sharply. The case sides are flat and to the right-hand side is the recess for the crown. The crown has the Longines name with the winger hourglass logo. The rear of the case has the bevelled edges with the brushed finish to the main face. Inside it is signed with the Longines name, the reference 7759-1 and the batch number 445.
The movement is the Longines calibre 428. It is a manually wound movement with a jewel count of 17 and kif shock protection. It operates at a frequency of 21,600 BPH. The service history is unknown, but it is running consistently and keeping accurate time. It is covered by our one-year warranty for peace of mind.
The watch is modelled on a 7” wrist circumference
