For sale we have a 1963 Smiths De Luxe 9ct gold presentation watch. It was presented by British Rail Western region, to Mr F.W. King for 45 years of service. It is an excellent example with little signs of wear. It comes complete with its original Smiths box and its original signed paperwork to Mr F.W. King from the 2nd of August 1963.

This is a classic everyday wear watch which can add a touch of class to your aesthetic.

The dial is a light cream tone with applied black tone Arabic numerals. There are simples dash minute markers, whilst the sub-second register is inset into the dial. It has grained concentric circles adding texture to the dial. The Smiths De Luxe signing is clear, as is the shock proof signing. Made In England is seen at the foot of the dial.

It has a 31mm case which is neatly proportioned for a gents wrist. Its lug-to-lug measurement of 38.5mm increases its presence on the wrist. The tone of the gold is excellent, whilst the polished finish is original and adds to the luxurious feel of the watch. The case back is good and polished with the original presentation engraving.

Inside the case has circular graining, with a sunburst finish, a very high quality and difficult effect to machine. It is signed SCW, which stands for Smiths Clocks & Watches. The Smiths made cases are of a great quality. It has British hallmarking from London assay office.

The movement is the reliable and accurate Cheltenham Made in England calibre 400 movement. It is Astral grade with un-polished components and smooth rimmed balance. It has the benefit of shock proofing.

The service history is unknown, but the movement appears very clean and is in good condition. It’s keeping time to +40 seconds a day.
