This is a very good example of a 1960s British cased Omega ladies watch.
It has a 9ct gold Dennison case which is neatly proportioned, measuring 19mm x 19mm, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 24mm. The 9ct gold honeycomb design bracelet was made by Joseph Cook & Sons and is original. It fits a 7-inch wrist. The watch has its original Omega signed crown. Inside the Omega calibre 425 movement is in excellent condition and keeps time to within +25 seconds a day. The watch comes in its original Omega box.
Dennison famously cased other manufacturers watches. This was due to import restrictions on high value items (gold watches). To evade this, some watch companies would sell bare movements and dials to countries, allowing authorized dealers to case the movements in cases from the country. Omega did not produce 9ct gold watches themselves, creating a niche for Dennison to provide 9ct gold cases, which were better than gold plated, but less expensive than 18ct or 14ct. These case designs closely followed Omega design, with Omega having control over the authenticate dealers.
The case is formed of 9ct and is in very good original condition. The case back snaps into place on this two-piece case. The lugs have sharp lines, with the case having its original polished finish. The case back is 9ct gold and is in good original condition. The polished finish is in good condition. There is light surface scratching consistent with natural aging. The inside of the case back is signed “Omega Watch Co, Made In England, 950 86614”. It has British hallmarks for 9ct gold by Birmingham assay office, with the date letter “L” for 1960-61. The case is marked A.L.D which is the Dennison makers mark.
The dial is in excellent original condition. It has a silvered satin base tone which shines gently in the light. The base tone is free of any real ageing and has only some very light spotted patina, only visible under very close inspection.
The applied numerals are very pleasing, shining bright in a gold tone, whilst being 3 dimensional. There are baton hour markers, with Arabic 9, 12, 3, 6. They add texture and depth to the dial, catching the eye as the watch moves. They are in good original condition with some very light corrosion to the mirror polished finish.
The gold tone Omega logo is applied to the dial below 12 O’clock, with the clear black Omega signing below. Below 6 O’clock, the dial is signed Swiss made.
This excellent dial makes this watch stand out, offering the same clarity of design, and textured beauty as the day it was made.
The hour and minute hands are original, of facetted dauphine style in a gold tone. They have some light scratching, but no real signs of tarnishing. They are in good condition for the age and reflect the light nicely.
The crown is original. It is 9ct gold and is in good condition and has a sharp coin edge. It is signed the Omega logo.
The 9ct gold bracelet is original. It is British made and has the patent number 739748.
It is assayed for 9ct gold, by Birmingham assay office, dated 1961-62. It has the makers mark for Joseph Cook & Son, who were based on Livery Street, Birmingham.
The design of this bracelet is excellent and very pretty. These very well-made British gold bracelets were an accompaniment to the British cased Omega watches of the 50s and 60s. This particular bracelet has a honeycomb design with a neat scored finish to the centre. The bracelet has springs that allow it to stretch at the clasp to fit over the hands and more comfortably on the wrist. It will fit a 7 inch wrist diameter.
The movement is an Omega calibre 245. It is manual wind with a 17-jewel count. It has a frequency of 19,800 and a power reserve of 48 hours. The serial number dates to 1960. Service history is unknown, but the time keeping figures are very good. It is keeping time to +23 seconds a day, with an amplitude of 270 degrees and a beat error of 0.6m/s.
