1960s Zenith Square Stainless dress watch with Beautiful Linen dial, cal 2532 movement.

 

This is a special looking watch with it’s neat square case and high quality linen finish dial. Add to that the dependable and quality cal. 2532 movement and you have an impressive watch.

 

The case measures 29mm wide without crown and 29mm in length without lugs. The case is neatly sized whilst still having the presence of a gents wrist watch. The dial is in good condition with a Champagne/silver Linen finish with a great texture to it. The Zenith signing and star are in good condition with no wear. The baton hour markers are applied and are in good condition with no signs of corrosion.

 

The case is Stainless Steel and is in good aged condition. It has sharp bevelled edges, with a polished finish all over. The bezel is in good condition also and is smooth, with a polished finish. The case back is stainless steel. It is in good condition. It is signed Stainless Steel with the case number 993430.

 

The hands are original. They are silvered "stick " style hands, made of Stainless Steel. The Second hand has is also original. They are all in good condition.

 

The crystal is the original acrylic example. It is in average condition, with very light surface scratching in places. In some lights it shows a subtle crazing due to it’s age. The crown is signed with the Zenith symbol and is original.

 

The movement is a calibre 2532 from Zenith. The serial number is 80,7833. The puts the watch as having been produced in 1965. It is has 19 jewels and is manually wound, with shock protection. The movement is a higher beat movement, operating at 21,600 VPH. It has a power reserve of 50 hours.

 

The movement is in good condition for its age both cosmetically and in terms of function. It has a daily gain of +7 seconds, with an amplitude of 302 and a beat error of 0.1m/s.

 

The strap is a recent replacement which is in good condition. It is a Shell Cordovan Handmade strap in black.

Dial:

The dial is in good condition with a Champagne/silver Linen finish with a great texture to it. The Zenith signing and star are in good condition with no wear. The baton hour markers are applied and are in good condition with no signs of corrosion. There are no scratches to the dial, but the dial does have some discolouration to the corners, where the dial meets the case. This isn’t visible unless the dial is removed from the case.

 

Hands:

The hands are original. They are silvered "stick " style hands, made of Stainless Steel. The Second hand has is also original. They are all in good condition.

 

Glass:

The crystal is the original acrylic example. It is in average condition, with very light surface scratching in places. In some lights it shows a subtle crazing due to it’s age.

 

Crown:

The crown is signed with the Zenith symbol and is original. It has a lovely coin edge, and is in excellent condition.

 

Case:

The case is Stainless Steel and is in good aged condition. It has sharp bevelled edges, with a polished finish all over. The bezel is in good condition also and is smooth, with a polished finish. There are some light surface scratches and a couple of deeper scratches on the lugs as visible in the images.

 

Caseback:

The case back is stainless steel. It is in good condition, with no dents, but some light surface scratching. It is signed Stainless Steel with the case number 993430. This is in good condition, with minimal wear, having never been polished. There are 3 slightly deeper than surface scratches from poor opening which have affected the brushed finish.

 

Strap:

The strap is a recent replacement which is in good condition. It is a Shell Cordovan Handmade strap in black. It will fit from a 6” wrist to a 7.5” wrist.

 

Movement:

The movement is a calibre 2532 from Zenith. The serial number is 80,7833. The puts the watch as having been produced in 1965. It is has 19 jewels and is manually wound, with shock protection. The movement is a higher beat movement, operating at 21,600 VPH. It has a power reserve of 50 hours.

 

The movement is well designed and rugged. It has two points of mention with an excentre regulator and Kif-Duofix combined settings for the escapement wheel. The movement is in good condition for its age both cosmetically and in terms of function. Service history is unknown, but the time keeping and other figures are very good.

 

It has a daily gain of +7 seconds, with an amplitude of 302 and a beat error of 0.1m/s.
