The snap on case back is formed of 9ct gold. Inside it has British hallmarking for 9ct gold from London assay office, with the date letter “i”, dating the watch to 1964. It is signed DS&S which is the makers mark for David Shackman and Sons. They were based in London and were jewellers who manufactured cases to retail Swiss made watches in the UK market. This was commonplace to avoid import costs on complete watches and gold from other countries, which were very high in this period. Swiss watch manufacturers such as Rolex, Omega, Longines, Baume & Mercier, Universal Geneve etc, would sell movements and dials to companies such as Shackman and Sons and Dennison, who would then case them and sell them in the UK market.

The movement is a Universal Geneve calibre 1107. This is a Universal Geneve branded ETA 1080 base calibre, which has been modified to a higher specification. It has 17 jewels and Incabloc shock-protection. It has a frequency of 18,000 BPH, with a power reserve of 42 hours. It has two screws to the crown wheel indicating higher quality than average.

The service history is unknown, however the movement is in good condition keeping good time. It has a daily gain of +20 seconds, with an amplitude of 270 degrees and a beat error of 1.4m/s.
