1960s Tudor Prince-Date 9ct square Auto dress watch Ref 12032, Tudor 2484 Box & papers.

This is a beautiful dress piece, that is a considered design that merges simplicity and elegance. It has a well proportioned 9ct gold case measuring 28mm square with a lug-to-lug measurement of 36mm. The case is hallmarked for 1968/69 and is signed with the reference 12032. Inside it has a very good quality automatic movement, with beautiful finishing. The inclusion of a date window is both functional and considered in the overall design with a balanced dial.

The watch has its original inner and outer box, as well as it’s guarantee paperwork. The paperwork is signed 1973 which indicates that the watch was in stock for 4 years before it’s sale.

This is something that happened in the past, with fashions changing more markedly and some wrist watches falling out of favour with the consumer. Perhaps most people wished for a large 1970s TV dial watch instead with a chunky Stainless case!

The dial is simple and elegant with a silver satin sunburst finish radiating from the centre. It is signed with the Tudor Rose at 12 O’clock with Prince Date just below. At 6 O’clock it is signed Rotor, Self-winding. The signing is in excellent condition with no wear.

The hour markers are applied, in a gold tone and have bevelled edges, creating an excellent textured appearance. The markers at 6, 9 and 12 are larger with black paint to the centre, the same as the hands. This helps tie together the design of the face well, adding texture to an otherwise simple dial. The date window has an applied black surround which bevels to the date window. The odd numbers are black on the date wheel, with the even numbers being red. Overall, the dial is in excellent condition with no signs of wear and no blemishes.

The hands are gold tone and are in good condition, free of bending and corrosion.

They are sword shaped with a black painted line down the centre.

The crystal is original and is in good condition with nothing more than light surface scratches.

The crown is original and is made of gold. It has the Rolex logo on it and remains in very good condition.

The case is 9ct gold. The case has not been polished and has light surface scratching. It maintains its original sharp lines and straight edges. The sides have a beautiful brushed finish, whilst the bezel is polished smooth.

The case back is made of 9ct gold and is polished at the edges, with a grained finish to the centre. There are some light surface scratches. Overall, it is in good condition.

The strap is a new, genuine leather strap with Alligator grain effect finish.

The buckle is gold tone and is signed Apollo.

The movement is a Tudor 2484 automatic movement which has 25 jewels.

It is in very good condition for its age cosmetically. The movement service history is unknown, but it has excellent timekeeping figures with a daily gain of +20 seconds
