1960s Longines Rose gold plated square dress watch ref 7731-1, 370 movement

This is a good quality and well designed 1960s watch from a good maker, with a movement of excellent quality.

The case is well proportioned at 28mm square and is a beautiful Rose gold plate. The case has not been polished and has light surface scratching. It maintains its original sharp lines and straight edges. The sides have a subtle brushed finish, whilst the bezel is polished smooth. There is no obvious wear to the gold plating.

The dial is simple and elegant with a silver satin sunburst finish radiating from the centre. The dial also has a cross hair finish. It is signed with the Longines hourglass and name at 12 O’clock. At 6 O’clock it is signed Swiss made. The signing is in excellent condition with no wear.

The hour markers are black painted. The markers at 6, 9,12 and 3 are applied, in a rose gold tone and have bevelled edges, creating an excellent textured appearance. They have black paint to the centre, the same as the hands This helps tie together the design of the face well, adding texture to an otherwise simple dial.

There is some scratching to the dial, particularly between 8 O’clock and 6 O’clock as visible in the images. The lacquered finish is in good condition.

The hands are rose gold tone and are in good condition, free of bending and corrosion.

They are sword shaped with a black painted line down the centre.

The crystal is original and is in good condition with nothing more than light surface scratches.

The crown is original and is rose gold plated. It has the Longines logo on it and remains in very good condition.

The case back is made of Stainless Steel and is polished at the edges, with a grained finish to the centre. There are some light surface scratches and one larger scratch.

The strap is a new, genuine leather strap which is un-branded, with an era correct gold plated Longines buckle.

The movement is a high grade Longines calibre 370 with 17 jewels and shock protection. The serial number of the movement puts the production of the watch at circa 1967. The movement service history is unknown, but it has excellent timekeeping figures.

It has a daily gain of +5 seconds, with an amplitude of 265 and a beat error of 0.6m/s.
