For sale we have a 1960 Omega Seamaster Ref 14730 in a Stainless Steel monocoque case. It has an automatic calibre 562 movement and a neatly designed cross hair dial, with date window at 3 O’clock. The 34mm case is well proportioned with neat straight lugs. This is an all-original example with a patinated dial.
The monocoque case is Stainless Steel, with a polished finish all over and straight lugs. The outside of the lugs has a facetted finish, which falls inwards to a slim point at the bottom. The bezel is neat and slim holding the low-profile domed crystal. To the rear of the case, the Seamaster medallion is in sharp with little wear. The original signed crown sits to the right-hand side of the case and is of an unusual notched style.
The dial is original and has quite a lot of discolouration and patination. The silver base tone has aged and has a yellowed, spotted tone. The dial is simple with dash minute/second markers around the exterior, whilst the hour markers are three-dimensional applied silver tone slim batons. The markers at 6, 9 and 12 are larger, with a slaw shape that bends to the dial. They have a facetted design with a mirror polish finish which catches the light. They balance well with the raised and facetted date window surround at 3 O’clock.
There is a crosshair design to the centre, with the classic applied omega logo and signing below 12 O’clock. The automatic signing is below, with Seamaster signing in traditional font above 6 O’clock. The dial is signed Swiss made to the base. The hands are original and are of a Luminous Pencil style in a silver tone.
The watch is on a new 18mm genuine leather strap. The buckle is Stainless and is non-Omega.
The movement is the legendary Omega calibre 562. It has the beautiful and classic rose gold finish which is bright and in good condition. It is automatic, with sweep second hand and has a jewel count of 24. It operates at a frequency of 19,800 BPH. The date is set by cycling the hands between 21:00 hours and 24:00 hours. The movement was serviced two years ago in its previous ownership. It has a daily variation –18 seconds a day.
