For sale we have a good, original example of a 1960 Omega Seamaster ref 14730-1 SC which has a 34mm stainless steel case. It has a silver satin dial with cross hair to the centre, with three-dimensional applied hour markers. The case is designed with thin straight lugs and a circular centre of the case. It has a monocoque case design with the sea horse motif to the rear. To the right is the reference correct, original crown with Omega signing. Inside is a serviced calibre 562 automatic movement with date function. It comes on an original 1068 No.12 beads of rice stainless steel bracelet.
The dial is clean and crisp, with an attractive lightly speckled patination. It has a silver satin sunburst finish, which catches the eye when you turn your wrist, as the dial reflects the light. It has the cross hair to the centre which provides balance to the dial. It has applied silver baton markers, with larger facetted and bevelled markers at 6, 9 and 12. These balance with the date window at 3 O’clock, with the applied raised silver window surround. The Omega logo is applied, with the automatic and stylised Seamaster signing below. The dial is signed Swiss made to the base.
The silver luminous stick style hands are original and correct. They are in good condition, with some light corrosion, with the lume having been replaced to the centre. The second hand is good and correct. They are protected by the original Omega crystal, with Omega logo etching to the centre.
The 34mm case is formed of stainless steel and has a 40mm lug-to-lug measurement, adding to the presence on the wrist. The case is original and unpolished. The steel beads of rice bracelet is the perfect fit with the 570 end links, blending seamlessly with the thin, straight lugs. The circular centre of the case has an angled polished bezel, with the dished design to the sides, angling inwards to meet the flat face of the case back. The case back has the Sea horse motif which is clear and well defined. The case has water resistant properties with the single piece design. The crown is removed with its split stem system, with the crystal being removed, to access the movement. The crown is original with its gapped knurled design and Omega signing.
The watch is presented on the reference 1068 No.12 Omega beads of rice bracelet, with 570 end links. These are all original and correct for the reference. The beauty and complete look that a vintage Omega beads of rice bracelet provides, cannot be overstated. It elevates any example above that of one on leather.
Inside, the calibre 562 movement is in excellent condition, having been recently serviced. The rose gold tone finish is excellent, with no wear. It is keeping time to within +/- 3 seconds a day.
Overall, this is a good and original, unpolished example, with neat cross hair dial, original crown and correct beads of rice bracelet, which has a freshly serviced movement. An ideal addition for a new collector or the seasoned Omega connoisseur.
