Here we have a luxurious late 1950s Jaeger-LeCoultre rear wind 9ct gold ladies watch. It has the classic silver dial with applied arrow hour markers and arabic 12 and 6. It is signed ‘Jaeger-LeCoultre’, with the dauphine style hands indicating the time. The watch head is clean with its polished circular design and lack of crown to the side, offering a unique symmetry. The bracelet is formed of 9ct gold and is integrated into the case with the 3 link design. The rear of the case has the winder with the directional arrow and the case reference 4113. Inside the case has hallmarking by London assay office, dating to 1959. Inside is the manual wind Jaeger-LeCoultre calibre 426/2 which has been recently serviced and is keeping reliable time.
The case is signed DTE, which is the makers mark for De Trevars. This indicates the watch was manufactured for the British market. De Trevars were British importers and case makers for JLC during the 1950s and 60s when gold import tariffs were extraordinarily high.
The dial is elegant with its silver satin base tone. It has a lightly speckled patina which shows the watches age nicely. The hour markers are of applied arrow design, with the 12 and 6 marker in Arabic style to differentiate. They shine brightly in the light and catch the eye. The dial is signed ‘Jaeger-LeCoultre’ below 12 O’clock. The hands are of Dauphine style which is simple and elegant in the gold tone.
The case is petite, measuring 16.25mm x 16.25mm. It has a slim depth of 8.25mm which allows it to sit neatly on the wrist. The bracelet is integrated into the case and has a width of just over 6.5mm wide. The watch will fit up to a 6.7” wrist circumference, with the possibility of additional bars to be gold soldered to increase the size to the clasp.
The head is a simple circular design formed of 9ct gold. It has the well sized bezel which falls away from the crystal to meet the flat case sides. The all-over polished finish creates a bright and elegant feel on the wrist. The rear of the case is flat with the same polished finish. The case back is held in place with two gold screws and is signed with the reference ‘4113’. The crown is positioned to the left of the rear, with the directional winding arrow and original retaining screw. Inside the case is signed with hallmarking from London assay office, for 9ct gold, dating to 1959. The DTE case maker mark is clearly visible.
The bracelet is integrated into the case with the matching band to either side, with staggered centre link. It has the same polished finish as the case which adds to the luxurious feel on the wrist. The watch is small, but packs in impact with the gold shimmering in the light. The clasp folds over, with bars allowing for slight adjustment. The bracelet is signed to the clasp with 9ct gold hallmarking.
Inside is the Jaeger-LeCoultre calibre 426/2. It is manually wound movement which has the crown fitted to the rear. It has a jewel count of 17, a frequency of 18,000 BPH and benefits from shockproofing. It has been recently serviced and is keeping time to within 1 minute a day. It has an amplitude of 260 degrees and a beat error of 1.0 m/s.
