For sale we have a beautiful 1958 Omega Seamaster beefy lug with waffle dial, in a 34mm Stainless-Steel Dennison case. It is the reference 5112.
It has an excellent original dial with two tone champagne colouration and a waffle/honeycomb finish. It has eye-catching arrow hour markers, with Arabic 9,12,3,6 adding balance to the dial. The luminous dauphine hands are original.
To the right is the original Omega ‘clover’ crown and to the rear is the push fit back case back. Inside it is signed Omega Denisteel, with the ref 5112.
The watch is powered by the Omega calibre 501 automatic movement, which has been serviced. This is the classic, everyday wear vintage dress watch.
The case is well proportioned measuring 34mm x 34mm, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 42mm adding to the presence on the wrist. The ‘beefy’ lugs are very well balanced with the circular central section of the case, with an inward taper allowing them to blend well. The The case back is good and clean with three levels, a flat face with circular grained finish and polished bevelled outer sections.
The considered design touches are clear with the excellent dial. It has a rare waffle/honeycomb finish which is a joy, interacting with the light and adding texture. There is a beautiful two-tone Champagne colouration, with a darker central section and lighter outer ring. This creates a range of textures and finishes to interact with the light. The applied arrow hour markers are thin and elegant, with the applied polished Arabic numerals adding a considered balance to the dial. The Dauphine hands are simple and elegant, a classic on Omegas of this era.
Inside is the Automatic Omega cal 501. It has a jewel count of 20, with sweep second. It has a frequency of 19,800 BPH, with a 46-hour power reserve. The rose gold tone finish is good and it is keeping time to +15 seconds a day, having been serviced.
