It has the 34.8mm case diameter with the elegant, elongated dog leg/lyre lug design. The Ivory dial has the applied facetted silver tone baton markers, with the double marker at 12 o’clock. Below 12 is the applied Omega logo with the chronometer signing below. Above 6 is the applied Constellation star motif and stylised ‘Constellation’ font and ‘Calendar’ text. To the right is the date window with facetted surround. The crown is a service replacement which is signed with the Omega logo. The case back snaps in place and has the Constellation & waterproof text to the top and bottom. The famous gold Constellation observatory medallion is set to the centre. Inside it is signed with the Omega name and the reference number. The movement is the calibre 504 which is a chronometer grade automatic movement. It has been recently serviced and is keeping accurate time. The watch is presented on a period No.12 Omega Steel bracelet with the 570 end links.
The Omega Constellation was first introduced in 1952 as a premier, chronometer grade line. They carry the applied star logo to the dial, with the Observatory medallion to the rear. The medallion depicts the Geneve Observatory, with eight stars. These eight stars symbolise Omega’s records in the observatory chronometer trials in Geneve and Kew-Teddington, between 1933 and 1952. This insignia of quality is exclusive to the Constellation line and is a joy to look at on the case back!
The dial is clean and classic with the Ivory finish. To the exterior of the dial are the dash minute/second markers. The hour markers are three-dimensional applied in the facetted baton style. They are a bright silver tone and catch the eye as they reflect the light. At 12 o’clock is the double marker to differentiate it, with the date window neatly balanced at 3 o’clock. It has the facetted window with the white wheel and black text. Below 12 is the applied Omega logo with the ‘Automatic Chronometer’ signing. Above 6 o’clock is the Constellation star logo and stylised ‘Constellation’ ‘Calendar’ signing.
The hands are the classic Dauphine style in the silver tone. The central second hand has the elegant, tapered finish.
The case is well proportioned measuring 34.8mm wide. It has the 44mm lug-to-lug length provided by the elongated lug design. It is formed of stainless steel and has the neat, bevelled bezel. The lugs are of the elongated dog leg/lyre style which adds significant presence to the case. They have a neat taper inwards as well as down towards the wrist. The sides have a subtle curvature outward, with the polished finish. To the right-hand side is the serviced replacement crown which has the coin edged finish and Omega logo. The case back press fits in place. It has the ‘Constellation’ etching to the top with ‘Waterproof’ to the base. It is adorned with the famous gold medallion Omega Constellation Observatory logo to the centre. The inside of the case is signed with the Omega logo with the reference 2943-2 SC.
The movement is the calibre 504 which is chronometer grade. It is an automatic movement with a jewel count of 24, with the date function. It has a 50 hour power reserve and operates at a frequency of 19,800 BPH. It has been recently serviced and has a daily variation of +7 seconds per day.
The watch is presented on a period No.12 Omega Steel bracelet with the 570 end links. This is a sharp alternative to the period beads of rice bracelet, having the two larger outer links flanking alternating rows of 3 and 4 links. It is well sized to fit up to an 8.5” wrist diameter.
We see this model as the ideal everyday vintage Omega. It is robust enough to withstand daily challenges, with the refined design that enables it to impress in a dressier setting. There is also the added bonus of the calendar complication, which was not common place on all Omega models in the mid to late 1950s.
The watch is modelled on a 7” wrist circumference.
