A beautiful and well-designed dress / sports watch from Omega, dating to 1956.
The case is Stainless Steel and measures 33mm x 33mm, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 40mm. The case appears fairly standard in terms of shape, but when you cast your eye over it from different angles, you can spot the complexity and quality and makes Omega watches from this period so desirable. The tapered lugs have a faceted finish to the straight sides. The side profile of the case is very pleasing with the notched design. The case reflects the light very well on its different angular surfaces. The crown is original and is signed with the Omega logo. The dial is a classic silver satin base tone, with linear grained finish. It has gold tone applied hour markers which are well balanced, with Arabic 9,12,3,6 and arrow markers in-between. The hour and minute hand are of luminous Dauphine style, whilst there is a neat central second hand. The Omega logo is applied to the dial, with Omega signing. Inside is a beautiful calibre 420 movement, with classic rose gold finishing. It is a nice touch, making the winding experience much more intimate. The timekeeping is excellent.
The bezel is on a circular raised notch, framing the dial neatly. Its straight sides drop to meet the main body of the case. The main body is neat with a slight notch beyond the width of the bezel. The sides are straight with a polished finish, with a facet to the underside to meet the case back. The lugs are nicely designed with a polished flat section of the main body of the case, leading into the tapered lugs.
The case back is stainless steel screw back. Inside, it has perlage finishing. It is signed “Omega Watch Co, Fab.Suisse, Swiss Made, 2649-1 L SC, Acier Inoxydable”.
The movement is a calibre 420 from Omega. The movement is manual wind with sweep second hand, 17 jewels, a frequency of 18,000 BPH and a power reserve of 48 hours. It has a serial number dating it to 1956.
The movement is in good condition both cosmetically and in terms of function.
Service history is unknown, but the time keeping and other figures are very good. It has a daily gain of -10 seconds, with an amplitude of 281 degrees and a beat error of 0.4m/s.
