Here we have a 1954 Omega Seamaster with the 34mm stainless steel case. It is the reference 2767-4 SC which has the beefy lug design and press fit back with washer inside. This variation has an aged silver tone dial with the applied arrow hour markers, with raised Arabic numerals to the quarters. Below 12 is the applied Omega logo and the signing. Above 6 is the stylised Seamaster text. The hands are of Dauphine style in the gold tone and black in-fill with the tapered central second hand. The crystal is original with Omega etching to the centre. To the right-hand side is the original clover crown with Omega logo. The case back has the ‘Seamaster’ text to the top and ‘waterproof’ to the bottom. The inside of the case is marked with the reference 2767-4 SC. The movement is a bumper automatic calibre 354. It has been recently serviced and is keeping very accurate time.
The dial on this example is a silver tone which has darkened with age. It has the speckled patination with a few darker spots of ageing. The centre of the dial has the silver satin tone, with an off white tone to the outside of the dial. The hour markers are of applied and facetted arrow form, with the raised Arabic numerals balanced at the quarters at 12, 3, 6 and 9.
The classic applied Omega logo sits below 12 with the black ‘Omega Automatic’ signing, whilst above 6 we have the italic ‘Seamaster’ font which is a classic feature within this period. The hands are the Dauphine style in the gold tone with the black in-fill to the centre. The central second hand has the elegant tapered design.
The case is well proportioned measuring 34mm x 34mm. The beefy lugs extend the total lug to lug length to 42.25mm which adds to the presence on the wrist.
The case is formed of stainless steel and consists of 3 sections with the snap-on bezel, central piece with lugs and the snap-on case back. The bezel is round with the polished finish, which falls away from the edge of the dial to meet the sides of the case. There is a subtle bevel before it meets the sides which is a neat touch. It holds the original acrylic crystal in place which has the Omega etching to the centre.
The lugs extend from the case and have a real presence with their wide stance. They appear from the front to be added onto the case due to the cut-out line for the bezel. They taper inwards and downwards towards the wrist. The sides appear to have the central band with the bezel and back meeting it. On the right-hand side is the original clover style crown with the Omega signing.
The case back has the polished finish with the dished edge and flat face. It is signed to the top with the ‘Seamaster’ name and ‘Waterproof’ to the bottom. Inside it has the instruction ‘Fit washer in back’ which is a common feature in this period to aid the seal. It is signed with the Omega name and is marked with the reference 2767-4 SC.
The movement is the Omega calibre 354 which is a bumper automatic movement. It has a jewel count of 17 and benefits from shockproofing. It is a robust and reliable calibre which has the famed bump which you can feel on the wrist. It has been recently serviced and is keeping accurate time to within +15 seconds a day, with an amplitude of 300 degrees and a 0.2 m/s beat error.
The watch is modelled on a 7” wrist circumference.
