For sale we have a good example of a 1951 Smiths De Luxe horn lug watch. It is a Dennison chrome case with stainless steel back snap on back. It measures 31mm x 31mm and is a neat design with the horn lugs adding to the case presence and wearability. It has a neat silver sector dial with inset sub-second dial and roman numeral hour markers. Inside is the calibre 12.15 movement which is running well. This is a lovely example of an early 1950s English made Smiths watch, with the charm of the horn lug design and eye-catching roman numeral dial.

The watch comes complete with its rare original Smiths De Luxe box.

The case Dennison case has a beautiful horn lug design which was popular during the period. This means the case measures 39mm in total length which helps make up for its neat 31mm diameter. The chrome plating has wear which is typical for the age of the watch. The crown is original, of Stainless Steel with coin edge and neat dimpled design.

The dial is eyecatching with its clear and balanced design. The contrast of the thick black print, against the silver dial is very clean. There is a satin finish to the centre of the dial, with a chapter ring with a subtly brushed satin finish. The sub-second dial is also inset and has a concentric textured finish. There are clear Roman numerals for the hour markers, with the Signing Smiths De Luxe with the cornet logo. It is also signed Made In England. The thermally blued Baton style hands indicate the time, with the sub-second hand being neat and thermally blued.

The watch is presented on a new genuine leather strap which will fit any wrist size.

The movement is a cal 12.15. It is manually wound, with a jewel count of 15. It is in good condition keeping time to within -40 seconds a day, with an amplitude of 240.
