This is a classic chrome plated mid-size tool/doctors watch, measuring 32mm from the late 1940s/early 1950s. It has a beautiful original dial with the classic thermally blued syringe style hands with lume infill and red central second hand. The large Arabic numerals have original radium lume infill which has aged perfectly, whilst the detailed second track is very clear. Inside it has a good quality AS 1187 movement which is signed Leonidas, whilst the inside of the Stainless Steel back is also signed Leonidas.

 

The case is Chrome plated brass and is in average condition. It has some pitting to the chrome finish which shows brass underneath. The edges of the case and the lugs are very sharp and the top and sides of the case maintain their original brushed finish.

 

The bezel is built into the top section of the case. It has a smooth finish and frames the dial very well. It has some small areas of wear to the chrome finish.

 

The case back is Stainless Steel and it’s screwback. It has a circular grained finish to the exterior. The inside has peerlage finishing and is signed Stainless Steel Back, Swiss, Leonidas Watch Fy, serial number 420705.

 

The dial is in very good original condition. The dial is a cream tone and has some speckled patina which shows the age of the watch nicely. This is a classic tool watch/doctors watch the the large, Arabic numerals and the clear and detailed second track. The Arabic numerals have their original radium lume infill which is a beautiful tone and has a puffy texture. The second track has graduations for 1/5s of a second, with clear marking for each second and Arabic numerals for every 5 second graduation. It is signed Leonidas below 12 O’clock and Swiss below 6 O’clock.

 

The hands are original. They are thermally blued Syringe style hands. They are in good condition with no bending and minimal corrosion. The thermally blued finish is a bright blue in the light. They are infilled with the original Radium lume paint.

The central second hand is original and maintains its original red paint.

 

The crystal is a replacement by ourselves which fits the profile of the watch and the bezel perfectly.

 

The crown appears to be original and is chrome plated. It has a coin edge finish. There is brassing visible on it.

 

The movement is an AS 1187 which is signed with the Leonidas name. It has 17 jewels, making this the higher jewel count version.

 

The movement is keeping time well, but the amplitude is low indicating a service will be necessary soon. The service history is unknown and it has not been serviced by ourselves.

 

It has a daily gain of +60 seconds, with an amplitude of 180 degrees and a beat error of 4.7m/s.

There are some surface scratches to the centre of the back and a couple of scratches near one of the case notches.

 

Strap:

The strap is a Brown genuine leather strap, measuring 16mm at the lugs.

It will fit from a up to a 7.5 inch wrist diameter. 

 

Movement:

The movement is an AS 1187 which is signed with the Leonidas name. It has 17 jewels, making this the higher jewel count version. It has a power reserve of 43 hours.

 

The movement is in good condition cosmetically and is keeping time well, but the amplitude is low indicating a service will be necessary soon. The service history is unknown and it has not been serviced by ourselves.
