1950s IWC black dial stainless steel dress watch, IWC cal 89, Refurbished case and dial.
 
The serial number dates the watch to between 1950-1955. The watch is a good size for gentlemen or unisex wear at 35mm x 35mm. The Stainless Steel case is in excellent condition, along with the dial, having been sympathetically re-finished. The dial now has a black lacquered finish, whilst the mid section of the case has a well executed grained finish. This is a sleek and classy dress watch which a beautiful movement inside.
 
The Manual wind IWC cal. 89 movement inside is a clear example of the understated quality of the watch. The bridge layout on this movement is robust, but incredibly clean with a bevelled edge. The Geneve stripe finishing is also wider than usual and creates a lovely finish to the bridges. The case is signed as well as the movement, all of which is in order.
 
Service history is unknown, but the time keeping and other figures are good. It has a daily gain of +6 seconds, with an amplitude of 322 and a beat error of 4.1m/s.
 
The watch comes on a brand new Crocodile strap, which was made in Italy. It has an unsigned stainless steel buckle.

Dial:
The dial is in very good condition having been refinished to a high standard. It has a black lacquered finish. All signing and tracks are clean and without wear. There is one white mark near 9 O'clock.
 
Hands:
The hands are original. They are silvered "Lance" style hands, made of Stainless Steel. They are in very good condition.
 
Glass:
The crystal is an acrylic replacement. It is in good condition. It has one mark near 3 O'clock.
 
Crown:
The crown is unsigned, but appears to be original. It has a lovely coin edge, and is in excellent original condition.
 
Case:
The case is Stainless Steel and is in very good condition having been refurbished sympathetically. It has sharp edges, with a brushed finish. There are some light surface scratches.
 
Caseback:
The case back is stainless steel. It is in very good condition, with no dents and only light surface scratching.
 
Strap:
The strap is a Genuine Crocodile strap made in Italy, which has a non IWC stainless steel buckle. It is brand new.
 
Movement:
The movement is a calibre 89 from IWC. It is has 17 jewels and is manual wind. The movement is in good condition for its age. Service history is unknown, but the time keeping and other figures are good. It has a daily gain of +6 seconds, with an amplitude of 322 and a beat error of 4.1m/s.
