Here we have an early 1950s Fears watch with a 33.5mm gold plated case, with the stainless steel screwback. It is a classic everyday wear with its central seconds and date function. It has the added functionality of the bi-directional automatic movement.

This watch has good vintage sizing, measuring 33.5mm x 33.5mm, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 41mm. It is a gents model, but its suitable for either a gents or ladies wrist.

It is a clean and classic design with a circular case and angular, tapered lugs. The bezel is of the bevelled style, falling away from the dial and reflecting the light. The lugs have a flat top and flat sides which creates a robust look, adding presence on the wrist. The crown is set within a recess to the right hand side. It is a nicely designed crown with the coin edge surround and domed face. The gold plating of the case is in very good condition for the age, with no clear wear to the lugs, bezel or sides.

It has a silver satin dial which has aged to an off white/cream tone. It has a beautiful, balanced design with the large hour markers. The arrow hour markers are applied in a gold tone, with the addition of arabic applied 6, 9 and 12. These balance with the date window at 3 O’clock which is a neat size. There are luminous plots to the base of each hour marker. The hands are of luminous Dauphine style with the aged luminous to the centre. The central second hand is thin and neat, with the rear drop counterbalance. The date window has the bevelled edge to the window, with the silver satin finished wheel and black arabic numerals.

The watch is presented on a vintage style genuine leather strap with the gold-plated buckle.

The movement is by well-known Swiss manufacturer Felsa. Their movements also featured in many good quality Swiss made watches. It is a Felsa calibre 692, which is an early bi-directional automatic movement. It was known as the ‘Bidynator’ for its patented bi-directional winding properties. The bi-directional rotor was still relatively new, with Felsa being the first company to mass produce it. It also benefits from shockproofing.

It is working perfectly after its Fears Heritage service and is guaranteed for a year giving you peace of mind. It has a daily variation of 20 seconds.

This beautiful example will come nestled in an official Fears box, in “Fears Bristol Blue” with cream interior. Upon opening, you will be greeted by a Fears owner club card, with a Fears cleaning cloth.

Accompanying this will be an extract from the Fears archive, detailing the specifics of this example, hand signed.
