For sale we have a pleasing 1950 Cyma Stainless steel dress/sports watch. It has a robust 33mm Stainless Steel case and a Cymaflex shock proof movement, necessary in any sports watch. The dress aspect comes with the dial, a stunning salmon sector dial with a gold tone chapter ring with Arabic numerals. Inside is the calibre 504 manual wind Cyma movement, with shock protection.
The case measures 33mm x 33mm which is neat, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 40mm. This adds to the presence of the watch on the wrist. The watch is very comfortable to wear and hugs the wrist with its subtly tapered lugs and shallow depth of 9mm. The top of the case has a double notch surrounding the bezel which adds some texture to the smooth case. The lugs blend seamlessly into the case, creating a very neat side profile. To the right is the large, original stainless crown which allows easy winding. To the rear is the screw back which is clearly engraved. Inside it is signed with the reference 9964.
The dial is standout. It is a salmon to Orange tone, with a satin shine. The sector design with the gold chapter ring is a neat touch, drawing the eye to the lumed Arabic numerals. Around the exterior are the gold dot applied hour markers which match the numerals and add texture to the dial. It is signed Cyma Watersport Shock Absorber to the centre, with an inset sub-second dial with grained concentric rings. The sub-second hand is original with an interesting counterbalance design. The hands are original and are thermally blued. This has aged to a very dark, near black tone.
The movement is a Cyma 504. It has a jewel count of 15, shock protection and a power reserve of 48 hours. A reliable and sturdy movement. The service history is unknown, but it is in good condition. It is keeping time to +35 seconds a day.
This is a well-made and designed dress sports watch from 1950, with a standout dial in a salmon tone and good quality movement. With so many neat design touches, this would be a joy to include in any collection.
