A stunning, all original, great example. 1947 Rolex Oyster Royal Reference 4444, with a recently serviced Rolex cal 710 movement. The movement is 15 jewels and hand winding with shock-proofing system. All aspects of this watch are original and it has a great patina which reflects its originality and 73 years of life. There is a personal engraving to the back from the original owner. This watch has single person ownership from 1948 until it was sold to myself. The screw down thread is perfect which is often an issue on the Oyster models. Overall a very attractive and enjoyable entry level Rolex. 
 
Dial: 
The dial is in average original condition with a lovely speckled patina radiating from the outside of the dial. It is signed with the famous Rolex name and Crown logo at 12 o'clock. The dial is marked "Swiss made" at 6 o'clock with "Shock Resisting" just above this. All of the above writing is clear, alongside the minute and seconds track around the outside. The numerals maintain the original "puffy" Radium luminescence, which has deteriorated naturally in some areas, leaving the painted outline of the numerals.
 
Overall this is an honest and original dial with suitable patina which bridges the gap between the fresh case and the vintage age of the watch.
 
Hands:
The hands are perfectly original and un-corroded on the thermally blued tone. They maintain the aged, light orange coloured Radium luminescence that they were originally filled with. Naturally this has degraded too an extent on the minute hand but during servicing this was cleaned from the rest of the watch to ensure no debris. 
 
The gold toned second hand is original and meets the margins well. This hand is in good original condition.
 
Glass:
The glass is original and in perfect condition.
 
Crown:
The crown is original, signed with "Rolex Oyster" fitting flush to the case, winding and setting well. The screw down crown thread is excellent with little wear.
 
Case: 
The case is Stainless Steel and is in strong condition with only light surface scratches that are consistent with age. A very nice original case that hasn't been polished.
 
Case back:
Strong condition with multiple light/medium surface scratches which are consistent with age. The coin edge remains undamaged and well kept. There is a personal engraving on the case back of "G.N.R. 29.7.49", this was related to the original owners profession the family tells me.
 
Strap:
The watches strap is a new, Ivory colour leather strap from Watch Gecko which will fit up to a 7 and a half inch wrist.
 
Movement:
The movement is a manual wind Rolex calibre 710, with 15 jewels and shock protection. It has been serviced and functions perfectly.
