For sale we have a unusual and uncommon French market Post war Omega watch. It dates to 1947 and is presented in an 18ct pink/rose gold case measuring 33.5mm, with excellent fancy elongated and curved lugs. It has Fab Suisse signed dial and matching signing on the calibre 28 movement. The dial is original and has eye-catching rose gold accents, with an unusual triple banded minute chapter.
This model was produced for a short time period for the French market at the end of the 1940s post war.
French law from 1892 prohibited import into France of any product that could mislead consumers as to its origins. As of 1936 it was required to have this signing close to the brand name. Fab Suisse (Fabrique en Suisse) acted as a legal rider on the dial to comply with regulations.
The case is well proportioned, measuring 33.5mm x 33.5mm, with a lug-to-lug measurement of 43mm. It is formed of 18ct pink gold and is a 3-piece case. It has a circular central section with a bevelled bezel, falling to flat brushed case sides. To the rear is a snap on case back. The watch has a very thin profile and fits the wrist neatly. The elongated fancy lugs add to the cases proportions and make this model stand out. To the side of the case is a neat rose gold tone crown. The inside of the case back has the serial number 10878727, with Omega singing, French hallmarking and PGF case maker mark.
The dial is noticed secondary to the impressive case but has interesting accents which catch the eye. The minute track has an unusual triple banding, with pink gold tone applied arrow hour markers and dot markers at 9 and 3. At 12 is a rose gold tone foil Arabic number with a black exterior. It is simply signed with Omega logo, name and Fab Suisse, with an inset sub-second dial at 6. It has concentric circles inside, with simple 5 second graduations.
The watch has the original hand which are of a Leaf style in a rose gold tone. The sub-second hand is matching and original.
The watch is on a new dark brown leather strap. It has a gold-plated Omega buckle which is period correct.
The movement is an Omega calibre 28. It is manual wind, with a jewel count of 17. It has a frequency of 18,000 BPH. It has a daily variation of + or – 50 seconds a day.
