For sale we have a beautiful watch of interesting design, which has a co-signed dial from a very prestigious British jewellers. The watch has been recently serviced.
This Zenith has a quality Stainless Steel case of an angular octagonal design with beautiful facetted faces and a polished finish. It is petite measuring 28mm wide, with a lug-to-lug length of 38.5mm, but the nature of the case design means it packs a punch and isn’t lost on a gent’s wrist. The way it interacts with the light, playfully reflecting it as you turn your wrist is eye catching.
The silver dial is co-signed Zenith and Boodle & Dunthorne Liverpool (Boodles). It is patinated with darker areas. The outside of the dial has a silver chapter ring for the minute markers which shines brightly. The hour markers are large black Arabic numerals. The sub-second dial is inset to the dial and has a circular engine turned finish.
The hands are of obelisk style with a thermally blued tone which shines in the light. The case back is Stainless Steel and inside it is signed: Zenith, Acier Inoxydable Staybrite, Swiss Made, 8266787.
The movement is a Zenith calibre 106 with the serial number 3,742,113, which dates the watch to 1947. The movement has been recently serviced by ourselves.
Boodle & Dunthorpe, now known as Boodles, were established in 1798 and have been steered by six generations of the same family over 200 years. They are a high-end retailer/manufacturer of luxury jewellery & watches. In the modern day they have stores in Liverpool (The original) London (New Bond Street, Harrords, Sloane Street, The Royal Exchange, The Savoy), Leeds, Manchester, Chester and Dublin.
Anthony Wainwright joined his father and grandfather at Boodles in 1939. After having served in Burma during the war he returned to take over in 1945. I 1947 they designed and made the solid silver stand for one of Princess Elizabeth’s wedding cakes. This was the very same year they retailed this very Zenith watch.
Modern day Boodles have retailed Patek Philippe for over 25 years and had a special version of the World Time Ref. 5130G-012, produced for their 220th anniversary.

Dial:
The dial is co-signed Zenith and Boodle & Dunthorne Liverpool (Boodles). The dial has a silver satin finish and is in average original condition. The Lacquer to the finish has aged so the dial is silver, with darker patinated areas. The outside of the dial has a silver chapter ring for the minute markers which shines brightly. The hour markers are large black Arabic numerals. The sub-second dial is inset to the dial and has a circular engine turned finish. The dial is signed Boodle & Dunthorne Liverpool, with Zenith above the sub-second dial. There is some wear to the signing.
Hands:
The hands are original. They are of obelisk style with a thermally blued tone. They are in good condition with no signs of bending. They have a deep blue tone which shines in the light. The sub-second hand is also original.
Glass:
The acrylic crystal is a replacement and is in great condition with no marking.
Crown:
The crown appears to be the original crown and is made of Stainless Steel. It has a coin edged finish and is a good size. It functions as it should, winding and setting the hands.
Case:
The case is made from Stainless Steel and is in good original condition with light surface scratching. It is of an angular octagonal design with beautiful facetted faces and a polished finish. This design interacts beautifully with the light, playfully reflecting it as you turn your wrist.
The bezel is raised and notched with a circular shape surrounding the dial.
The case is flat and octagonal to the top, with the upper and lower quadrants leading to the lugs having a facetted face, falling to the flat polished sides. The area closest to the lugs is flat which leads to an interesting angular design. It is designed in a manner which makes the lugs appear to flare out.
Caseback:
The case back is Stainless Steel and is in good condition. The caseback appears unpolished, apart from natural wear against the wrist. There are only light surface scratches with no deep nicks or marks. Inside, it is signed: Zenith, Acier Inoxydable Staybrite, Swiss Made, 8266787.
Strap:
It is a genuine leather strap for 14mm lug width and fixed lugs. It has metal fold over tabs to hold it in place. It has a plain Stainless-Steel buckle. It will fit up to a 7.5” wrist circumference.
Movement:
The movement is a Zenith calibre 106 with the serial number 3,742,113, which dates the watch to 1947. It has 15 jewels, with a frequency of 18,000 BPH and a power reserve of 38 hours. The movement has been recently serviced by ourselves. It has a daily loss of -1 seconds, with an amplitude of 330 and a beat error of 2.7m/s.
