Here we have a beautiful and uncommon 1945 Zenith 35mm steel cased watch, with the fancy lug design. It has a beautiful black dial, which has developed a spotted tropicalised patination, turning the dial to a dark brown tone in areas. It has the alternating baton and Arabic numeral markers, with the raised, aged radium luminous in-fill. The font of the Arabic numerals is beautiful with the stylised curvature. The case is well sized at 35mm and it has a complex mix of curves and angles which reflect the light. It is of a saucer design with the bevelled bezel. The lugs are of an unusual ‘fancy’ design, appearing applied to the case. To the right is the recess for the large, chunky crown. The case back screws in place with the six notches. Inside, the movement is protected by the dust cover. The movement is a manual wind Zenith calibre 106 P-6. It has shock proofing and has been recently serviced.

The dial is wonderful on this watch. The original tone will have been black, but with age it has developed a beautiful tone. It has the speckled tropicalised patination, which has led to areas of the dial turning dark brown. The signing has a clear contrast with the white railroad track and Zenith star logo signing. It has the inset sub-second track which has the grained concentric circles and simple dash markers. To the base, it is signed ‘Swiss’. The hour markers are white, with alternating dash and arabic numerals. They are in-filled with the radium luminous which has aged beautifully, to a light brown tone. The texture further adds to the appeal of the dial. The hands are of syringe stye in the silver tone, with the original aged radium luminous, which matches the hour markers. The sub-second hand is clean with the lollipop design.

The case is a good size for a vintage piece, measuring 35mm x 35mm. It also has a good lug-to-lug length of 42.75mm. It maintains a slim depth, under 10mm which makes it a comfortable wear on the wrist.

It is formed of stainless steel and has the complex design. The bezel has the dished design with the bevel to meet the main section of the case. The dished shape of the main body creates a double stepped profile. The lugs are applied to the case and are tapered inwards, whilst curving to meet the wrist. To the right there is a recess for the crown. The crown is nicely design with the broad coin edge and domed face.

The case back screws in place and has the six notches for opening. It has the brushed finish to the face with the polished exterior. The serial number is clearly engraved.

Inside it has the perlage finishing and is signed with the Zenith name

There is a dust cap over the movement, which helps secure it and protect it from dust and moisture. The movement is the Zenith calibre 106 P-6, which has a jewel count of 15. It is manually wound and benefits from shock protection. It has been recently serviced and keep accurate time to within 20 seconds variation a day.

The watch is modelled on a 7” wrist circumference.
